Routers + Switches - traffic question

Thanks. Like you say, I'll have to try it to know for sure. I think it will help with the Sky Mini boxes for the extra rooms, but I will stick to the plan of re-wiring the main rooms.

Routers + Switches - traffic question

Are the Netgear Powerline PL1200 adapters worth considering instead of the long cable runs?

Routers + Switches - traffic question

Thanks for this reply. No backups would be run during video streaming, so I guess I should try it the easy way first and see how it goes. I will then have the option to connect the daisy chained GS108E's direct to the router from the nearer switch, if their traffic affects the larger AV room...

    NAS or DIY Server

Thanks. For my usage, I don't think any NAS software is going to offer me any benefits over a DIY Server. All HDD's will be shared separately and backed up manually. For the moment I only really need to stream Movies to one Media Player, but that might become 2 at a later date. So as long as...

    NAS or DIY Server

NAS or DIY Server? I currently used a few 2TB HDD's that I have ripped some of my Blu-Rays onto. I do a 1:1 copy, usually by folder. Now that Hard Drive prices are getting back to a reasonable level, I want to continue what I started. I've been using the HDD's in a dock attached by eSata...
