    How to keep RT-N16 alive

Hi I've been using a (now unsupported) RT-N16 for 4 years. It has been very trustworthy. It's firmware is Merlin 378.50. However, I just switched ISP and going from 25Mbps plan to a 100Mbps plan. Speedtest with laptop connected (using Cat6) directly to the modem gives: 98.9Mbps/10.3Mbps...

    the one left behind

Hi I have a RT-N16 running a version of Merlin and I've been really happy with it. Now Merlin no long support it, what would be a good firmware for it? I don't use it for wireless, I have 3 AC APs. Radio is turned off, I use it as a wired router. I need dnsmasq: static DHCP, mapping multiple...

    QoS settings help

My connection is fairly slow (compared to yours) 25/10 (the uplink is comparable though). First, anything is cheaper than what Bell (Canada) is charging me: $40.00 for a barebone residential line (no Caller-ID, LD not included, no voicemail, nothing.) My wife want the best voice quality (at...

    wan-start never get called

Wow, just adding that line make it work!!! must be a timing thing. Maybe ppp0 is not fully functional when wan-start got called and calling logger made it work by adding a delay. Thank you very much.

    wan-start never get called

Hi I put a wan-start script on the router but it never get called. If I telnet in and call the script by hand then it's ok. But it never get called when wan ip changed. admin@router:/tmp/home/root# ll -t /jffs/scripts/wan-start -rwxrwxrwx 1 admin root 128 May 24 11:34...

    Firmware for RT-N16

I tried, cut&paste my username/password for dns-o-matic into merlin, but it keeps getting this error: May 15 16:18:13 ddns update: ez-ipupdate: starting... May 15 16:18:14 ddns update: connected to updates.dnsomatic.com (67.x.x.x) on port 80. May 15 16:18:14 ddns update: authentication...

    Firmware for RT-N16

Hi I'm shopping for a new router and the RT-N16 is my choice for the moment. I will use it in pure router mode (no wireless). Speed and stability are important. However, I'd really love to have the following features, ordered by importance: port-fowarding: forward port 22 connection to...

Ubuntu as a NAS instead of Ubuntu Server

I thought they have different kernel. AFAIR, the kernels have different default scheduling (fairness level) settings.

    DNS-321 doubt

Don't know, but you can install fonz' funplug that can support many more things than just bittorrent. Pretty sure, except for usb which the dns-321 has none.

New To The Charts: Cached Performance Filters

I'd suggest to eliminate all numbers for file size smaller than 2G (or 1G). Above 2G, it'd be very unlikely for the local cache to have a significant effect on the results. we can't just look at the read numbers. Some NASen have very different read-vs-write performance.

But different NAS has different performance characteristics for read vs write. My DNS-321 does 25MB/s write but only 12MB/s read (I measures the time on ftp socket read/write with 4GB real file on disc so no HOST filesystem cache was involved only DMA chain size would have any effect on the...

Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Reviewed

more than 125MB/s How can the throughput can be 264.4 and 281.9 MBytes/sec ??? Regardless of the kind of caching the device does at the other end of the wire, the bits are still transfered through physical wire under the theoretical limit of 125MB/s, aren't they?
