ASUS Zenwifi XT8 Node Losing Connection

Yes, happened to me with older XT8 firmware. You should try the most recent from ASUS, or even the public beta firmware.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Guess I should have done that. Next RC if the problem persists. Trying to get this RC working pretty much took all day which I'm not keen on repeating.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

There are switches between the router and the nodes, but none of my switches are managed. I'm guessing the managed switch problem shows up with these later releases because I'm having no problems with rc2-4, which I'm sticking with for now.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Because it was even worse with all the nodes left on. The suggestion was add them one by one singly so that the router never saw more than one node at a time. Actually when I turned on the third node, the LED went white for a while before the whole thing broke down. Probably if I had waited...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Here's what I tried with all nodes on the same firmware, everything reset to factory: o set up the router, ethernet backhaul selected o Added first node o turned off first node and added second node o turned off second node and added third node o turned off third node, turned on first...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Beats me too. Every beta up to and including rc2-4 installed fine on the router and all nodes, even without doing a factory reset. Everything since has been a disaster, even with a factory reset. For some reason the only setup it will accept with rc2-7 is one XT8 router and one XT8 node. Any...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Cannot add more than one XT8 node to my setup. The second one never connects properly and eventually disappears completely.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I'm trying to go back to the RC2-4 firmware. I can do that on the router, but the nodes don't stay connected long enough to do the downgrade. Guess I'm going to have to connect to each with an ethernet cable from my laptop and downgrade. A real pain in the neck.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Yes, Ethernet Backhaul Mode is checked and always has been. Ok, reset the router and set it up again. Reset one of the nodes and added it back in again. It gets added with a weak wireless backhaul despite ethernet backhaul being checked, stays connected for about a minute, and then disconnects...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I rebooted the router, all nodes disappeared. I power cycled each node. The LED on them turns white for a minute, the main router show a weak wireless backhaul connection, then the LED starts rapidly blinking blue and they disconnect.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

ZenWiFi XT8 with 3 nodes, all using ethernet backhaul. No problems under RC2-4. Updated main router to RC2-7, seemed OK, much better than RC2-5. Updated first node, seemed OK also. However, as I updated each subsequent node, each disconnected and would not reconnect, ethernet backhaul or...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Update. Reset all XT8s and started from scratch. All nodes are ethernet backhaul. Set up router with rc2-5 firmware and re-configured all my settings from scratch. No UI slowdowns and ethernet backhaul looked good. Added second mesh node, also good. Added third, seemed to go OK. Added fourth...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

I attempted to update my XT8s again (I have 4), providing plenty of time for the interface to become responsive again. Router went OK but it did take 15 minutes before the web interface could be used. Added second node, that went OK too. Added third node. Interface became unresponsive and both...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Updated my XT8 router to RC2-5. While everything seemed to work, the web interface became extremely sluggish. taking minutes to log in or change pages. Factory reset didn't fix it. Had to flash the previous beta and restore my settings from backup.

ZenWifi AX No 160mhz for backhaul

Great analysis. In the UK it looks like those channels are allowed but monitored and put out of service if radar is detected. Unfortunately in Canada, they are completely forbidden and don't even show up in the list of selectable channels. Channels 52, 56, 60, 64 are also not selectable in...

ZenWifi AX No 160mhz for backhaul

I've finally got to the bottom of the "160Mhz" option missing in Canada. Canadian regulations do not allow use of channels 120, 124, and 128 due to the fact that Canadian Weather Radar operates on those channels. Since there are 3 missing channels right in the middle of the 5GHz spectrum, there...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Running the RC2 on three XT8's also, all using Ethernet backhaul. Was that button to enable Ethernet Backhaul also in the ASUS firmwares and I just missed it? Once enabled it allows Tri-Band Smart Connect and gives all 3 radios the same SSID. I though I might be able to get the "enable 160MHz"...

    ZenWiFi XT8 new firmware 3.0.0.4.386_25524

I'm trying out the 9.0.0.4.386_38936-gab07b3f beta firmware. So far so good. A few observations. Maybe I missed it in the ASUS firmwares, but there is a button under AiMesh->System Settings that forces Ethernet Backhaul mode. Once set, "Tri-Band Smart Connect (2.4GHz, 5GHz-1, 5GHz-2)" comes...
