Good point about the firmware. But I do not get it why the 88U Pro has better firmware when they have the same hardware. Or does it have another CPU generation (RAM, CPU GHz etc are same numbers)?

Done a bit more searching. I can get hold of a RT-AX88U Pro nicely used, and Asus RT-AX86U Pro are still for sale. Both about same price.

Please stay on topic folks... I have pointed out the AX88U Pro is sadly no longer for sale, at least in my region. AiMesh setup may be the best solution for my case, will look into alternative options for the AX88U Pro.

Yes, this is a problem, the model is no longer for sale. So I am not sure which other model to go for in the AX line. Also, AI mesh with backhaul, need more info on this. Is it just the APs are LAN connected? Not sure my cheap AP support AI mesh.

@Tech9 any chance you can comment on this? I got used to Asus routers and have had close to no problems with them. Also nice we can use Merlin firmware. Top TP-Link routers are even more costly then Asus. The one I linked, its the one you advice to try? Which mesh boxes are best to combine with it?

Hi Been running a Asus RT-AX88U as main router with a RT-AX1800U as access point (AP for better range wifi). I had to do something because the main router could not cover the whole house, so set up a second cheap router as AP. What I have noticed lately, is that my work computer has the last 2...

OK thanks. I just wanted to compare settings before and after, in a more easy way. So, what would be the 'easiest' when the files are encrypted? Manually write down all settings/screenshots?

Ok, this is weird. I saved the old firmware settings (Asus RT-AX88U, Asuswrt-Merlin 384.14), and tried to open the file to see if I could use it to compare settings for reentering after update. But when I open it in Notepad, its just Chinese signs?!

How does the GT-BE19000AI work with Merlin, when it comes to all the extra AI features (like Docker etc)? Does Merlin just run the standard Asus GUI/features untouched?

Looks like the ASUS RT-BE92U are kinda a side-grade from RT-BE88U. The 92U got better wifi(?) but worse hardware(?) it looks like.

So i the conclusion its most likely an attack via Asus AI feature (Disk or Cloud)?
