Asus Routers Extension Proper Set-up Using Ethernet Cable

For me the choice for an access point is reliability. Just my opinion, but it looks like mesh networks are still evolving and the bugs are getting worked out. I think the third box would not be a true access point, but a wireless repeater with compromised bandwidth. "Better" always depends on...

Asus Routers Extension Proper Set-up Using Ethernet Cable

Just about. Use one as the main gateway and only actual "router" on the network. The other should be configured as an Access Point, which removes its ability to assign IP addresses (it is no longer a "router") and makes it a network switch having both Ethernet and Wi-Fi outputs.

    Asus Routers to Keep

My own choice would be to keep the ones with the widest range. Coverage is an issue in my 122-year-old house, and I see no use for Wi-Fi 6.

Asus Routers Extension Proper Set-up Using Ethernet Cable

I have a similar configuration (but different model numbers). My RT-AX86U is the gateway router, and an RT-AC86U hardwired to it is configured as an access point. Works flawlessly, been doing so ever since first installed. You can give them both the same SSID or separate, your choice.

    Broken power button

A common solution is to wedge the end of a toothpick into the gap. When you have found the right spot you can also drop a bit glue onto it for security. No need to open the case or fiddle with the circuit board.

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Adversely Affects WiFi Performance?

That does bear further investigation. My (ASUS) router and access points are plugged into high-end APC UPS boxes and I'm getting 660Mbps downloads, so your issue must be triggered elsewhere.

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Adversely Affects WiFi Performance?

Sure! <https://www.apc.com/us/en/product/download-pdf/BE425M?filename=APC_BackUPS_BE425M.pdf> Oh-- did you mean the main unit? APB Back-UPS Pro 1500.

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Adversely Affects WiFi Performance?

I wish! I have seen the same symptoms here but it did not occur to me what the problem may have been. Within a few feet of the UPS Wi-Fi bandwidth is wrecked. Actually plugged into it, double-wrecked, like reduced from >500Mbps to <20Mbps. My main UPS is a good APC model, no problems.

Support ending Dec 2024 for AC3100 - Need hardware buying advice?

Hey, just ship it to me! I could use a nice access point with good radio range. I'll pay for shipping, of course

    GT-AX11000 vs RT-AX86U

Aren't those pretty hard to come by (unless you are running a massive data center)?

Powering a 19V Asus Router with a USB-PD laptop Cord?

Just for a reference point, the back of my AX86U states 19.5 volts, 2.3 amps max (45 watts). In practice it uses much less than that.

Powering a 19V Asus Router with a USB-PD laptop Cord?

In the specs it says the necessary components to request the higher power are built into the USB-C connector.

External antennas on AC/X 88/6U and others, how are they utilized for different bands?

I cannot answer for sure, but that seems to be the most likely.

External antennas on AC/X 88/6U and others, how are they utilized for different bands?

It is worth remembering that the radiation pattern for a single-element antenna is shaped like a donut so that the best signal will be obtained at right angles to the antenna shaft. If, in your multi-story case, you get poor results one one floor try positioning the antennas so they are at right...

    Smart Band Steering

Different SSIDs is adequate. Simple "forget" the unwanted SSID from each device that you want locked to a single band.

    Fun with ChatGPT...

I am reminded of the time I asked ChatGPT about the benefits of a certain Nordic treaty. It responded that the treaty did not exist. Odd, it was referenced throughout my wife's doctoral dissertation, which I proof-read and her advisor lauded, and it was easy to find on Google.

    AI Mesh vs AP

As best I can figure out what you lose by using access points instead of mesh is "frustration and unreliability." If you have Ethernet to your second location just use it as an access point, and walk away smiling.
