Should I buy a 'real' AP, or just another router?

The one I use is actually called "Wifi Roaming Fix" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.heleron.wifiroamingfix&hl=en There are others including apps which switch to a different SSID (instead of a different channel). Wifi Roaming Fix does not switch away from your...

    bandwidth, traffic monitoring?

I'm thinking I shouldn't if I've got the router set up properly. That Zywall has a bit of a learning curve to it. Anyway, I had a torrent which completed and hours later I still had 10000 sessions full and basically no access to the internet as a result. There's no "clear dead sessions" button...

    bandwidth, traffic monitoring?

Thanks, I returned the TP-Link and bought a ZyXEL Zywall USG 50. I get slightly better statistics and, it seems, a much more feature-filled router in general. I also signed up with OpenDNS and now have their stats as well. The only trade off has been in "concurrent sessions" where the Zywall...

Should I buy a 'real' AP, or just another router?

I've had good luck with same SSID, multiple channels, with the addition of an application such as "Wifi Roaming Fix" (for android) which ditches the weaker connection for the stronger one, instead of waiting for the weaker one to be completely dead before switching. Otherwise you'll be either...

Help understanding Zywall USG bandwidth management

Hi, I'm an amateur trying to figure out the BWM on my ZyXEL ZyWall USG 50. There's some things that confuse me, and some things I'm not quite sure how to do. My first question is regarding the difference between "inbound" and "outbound" as regards to BWM. I've read the help document a dozen...

    help me pick a router

My old router and current router both support forwarding to a different port. It's just the Cisco small-business routers that (apparently) don't, according to the review here. I should have mentioned that I was looking for a wired-only router. I ordered the ZyXel after playing with their demo...

    help me pick a router

I should add that I need port forwarding with different internal- and external-port numbers. I think this eliminates the little Cisco routers. Can anyone recommend the Zyxel USG 50?

    help me pick a router

I'm trying to improve my internet at home. My design goal is "better" and to that end I've replaced my consumer router with a TP-Link 6210 and a three-pack of ubiquiti APs. I bought a monoprice unmanaged gigabit switch and I'm in the process of pulling CAT-6 all over the place. I'm not...

    bandwidth, traffic monitoring?

I switched this week from a ASUS router running tomato to a TP-link TL-ER6120 and Ubiquiti UniFi access points. I love the stability and speed of the router, and the great connections through the APs, but there's one thing I miss. TomatoUSB had all these great graphs and charts. I could...
