    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.45 is out

Everything working great I just wanted to report in that after a couple weeks running 376.45, everything is great. I had an issue with .44 version giving slow USB transfer speeds (in the 3-4 MB/s range), but .45 is back to the usual 8-9 MB/s transfer rate. Thanks so much for the...

RT-N16 with USB drive, how to install OpenVPN client?

I too would love if this was possible. I know the nvram on the n16 is too small for OpenVPN client, so using USB drive to store keys and such would be cool way around this issue.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.44 Beta 1 is out

Confirmed SMB rate slowdown using NTFS USB Disk I switched back to 374.43, and my USB xfer rates went right back up to 8-9MB/s range from the 2.5MB/s I was getting with the 376.44 beta 3. Staying with older firmware for now. Let me know if you need me to test anything as I am happy to switch...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.44 Beta 1 is out

Slow SMB transfer speeds using NTFS drive I have a 3TB NTFS USB drive attached to my RT-N16. I had firmware 374.41 installed previously and was getting 7-10 MB/s transfer speeds using SMB transfers. With new firmware, it is down to about 2.5-3.0 MB/s. I notice that is starts off OK at about...

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

I just retested my 3TB USB 2.0 drive and get 6-7MB/s. Not sure USB2.0 is the limiter so much as the CPU. During file transfer, the CPU on my n16 is about 50-60%.

ntfsprogs: where can I find it for Merlin?

Well, I found 1/2 of the issue. I guess I should be updating Entware when I update firmwares. The new entware-setup.sh script gives a new repository and is much better updated. Only bad side is that there is still no ntfsprogs on that repository.

ntfsprogs: where can I find it for Merlin?

I wanted to add ntfsprogs, which includes ntfsfix, on my router. I tried to use opkg but it does not find ntfsprogs or anything similar. In fact, opkg list shows only about 20 programs available. Is there another source I need to add? My current repository is: src/gz openwrt...

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

I am using a 4TB WD external disk, formatted as NTFS, just fine on Merlin for the past 9 months. Not a single issue yet. Speed is not terribly fast, maxing out at 5MB/s, but I like to be able to plug the disk into my laptop and read the files without using an ext2/3 conversion tool.

    3TB drive on Asuswrt-Merlin??

Correct. My MBR 3TB drive would not work as boot, for sure. But it is working great so far as a data drive on my RT-N16. I have not stored more than 2.2TB of data yet, but I doubt any issues will arise at that point. Fingers crossed.

    crond not running

Well, I have tried re-launching crond from SSH, and it stays up for minutes to hours, but does eventually crash. Nothing gets written to the syslog when it crashes, so I cannot really tell when/why it crashes. Anyone else having trouble keeping crond running on the latest firmware on RT-N16?

    SSH Brute Force Attacks

Doh! You are right. I did not really notice the time stamps. So the iptables settings are indeed working as they should.

    SSH Brute Force Attacks

Not working? Uh, I have the Brute Force Protection enabled in GUI, but it does not seem to help. Here is my 'China Syndrome' from syslog. Maybe need to adjust the variables, as in 4 attempts every 60 minutes? Oct 7 20:00:08 dropbear[1096]: Login attempt for nonexistent user from...

    crond not running

Here is some more info on this problem. Crond does run at first, as I can see from a ps when I quickly SSH into my router after boot. But within 1-5 minutes after rebooting, crond goes away with no log or error details. Very odd. Here is my syslog, starting with when crond is initialized...

    crond not running

crond crashing I have been getting my system set up with all the tweaks I like, but have found I have somehow done something that stopped crond from running. I see in the log that it is started and given PID #320. I do not see anything in the log about it stopping. But when I do a ps it...

    SSH Brute Force Attacks

I see that there is an option under "Administration/System/Miscellaneous" for Enable Brute Force Protection. I am curious what this option does. Does it adjust iptables similar to this thread? Iptables settings against attacks

    3TB drive on Asuswrt-Merlin??

There are so many variables, it is very hard to say why it works in one case and not in another. Perhaps GPT vs MBR (I used minitool to convert to MBR), sector size (4096 in my case) and drive brand/firmware all play a role. I am very happy with the result I have gotten, though! And after...

    3TB drive on Asuswrt-Merlin??

Success with NTFS 3TB drive I am using 3TB USB Seagate Expansion Desktop disk (USB2/3) and am able to copy > 4GB files just fine and am using the entire 3TB drive size. I am running latest 3.0.0.4.374.33. Also getting quite fast copy speeds, around 15MB/s. Drive is MBR (using 4096 sector...

    3TB drive on Asuswrt-Merlin??

:o:o That does pose a problem, eh? Sorry, I thought N16 was 64K. I think I was getting confused reading up on some of the 3.X kernel work going on for dd-wrt on the RT-N16. I could have sworn there was talk about getting 64K NVRAM space and just assumed it had the hardware to support it...
