    Jumbo Frames? Or not?

I read that article earlier today, I think I must have just missed that part regarding my question. So far I've set up jumbo frames on everything, and it does seem to make a huge difference. Higher transfer rates to and the server, and seems like the slower speed stuff (printer and...

    Jumbo Frames? Or not?

I've been reading the articles on here and some other sites, and I see some conflicting information regarding jumbo frames. I have a couple machines and devices on a gigE switch that does support jumbo frames. 4 of the attached machines support gigE and jumbo frames. 1 printer runs 10/100...

Running Cat5e outdoors? Or go wireless?

Sounds like a good plan then. Now I just have to wait for the cable to arrive..2 day shipping in the US = 10-14 days to get to Italy!

Running Cat5e outdoors? Or go wireless?

Well, I'm in southern Italy, so it never gets too cold. The area the cable is run is in the shade most of the time, but I hadn't considered the UV issue. The cable is only outdoors for about 10-12ft total. Would some simple plastic conduit be good for the UV protection? I only need it to...

Running Cat5e outdoors? Or go wireless?

Sounds like I'll be routing some cable then. I ordered a couple 100ft patch cords just to be on the safe side. That way after I pinch one in the window frame, I'll have a spare on hand. I'll make sure I keep that tip about the drip loop in mind too. Streaming video not water!

Running Cat5e outdoors? Or go wireless?

I just moved to Italy, and I'm working on setting up my network again. Apparently, drywall and wood framed homes don't exist out here. Solid walls, tile floors and plaster are the name of the game. I have a storage space downstairs which will contain 1 WHS box, 1 ADSL modem, 1 WiFi...

    3G Modem, ICS, DIR-655, help!

Found some good info on Vista ICS. Apparenlty it runs it's own little DHCP server when you enable it, set to 192.168.0.1/24, which was conflicting with my DIR-655's internal DHCP server. Also, it doesn't pass DNS server information along. So, to fix this, I install the modem on one computer...

    3G Modem, ICS, DIR-655, help!

Thanks for the reply! I figured the 3G modem feature wouldn't work. That would be too easy. :) So you think I should skip the router, and just use the switch? Static IPs and DNS settings on all the machines? What I tried so far was just 2 PCs and the home server connected to the...

    3G Modem, ICS, DIR-655, help!

I just moved overseas, and was told it could take 3-4 months to get an ADSL connection into my home. I'm trying to work a temporary solution for my machines until then. Here's what I have: A Vodafone 3G modem pay-as-you-go, a D-Link DIR-655 router, an 8 port switch, 2 desktop PCs, 1 WHS...
