Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

Thank you. Everything seems to be behaving as expected now. :)

Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

Upon disabling the SPI for IPv6 again, the packet loss returns.

Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

I tried to enable the SPI firewall, this made ICMPv6 have no packet loss. That sounds very strange to me. Now the output looks like this: # Generated by ip6tables-save v1.4.15 on Wed Oct 4 20:13:46 2023 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [662:108718] :INPUT ACCEPT [414:32984] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [17:1437]...

Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

I did try to disable IPv6 on the RT-AX88U, turn it off for five minutes. Turn it back on, re-enable IPv6, turn it off again for five minutes, and turn it on again. Didn't make any difference.

Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

I have to admit, I don't have much experience with IP tables. I have the SPI firewall disabled in the WebUI and ip6tables-save outputs this: # Generated by ip6tables-save v1.4.15 on Wed Oct 4 20:08:35 2023 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [6505:1215489] :INPUT ACCEPT [3031:251099] :OUTPUT ACCEPT...

Strange packet loss with IPv6 going through my Asus RT-AX88U running 3004.388.4

Greetings, I've started to have issues with my Static Global IPv6 traffic going through my Asus RT-AX88U, running AsusWRT-Merlin firmware 3004.388.4. I have static IPv4 and IPv6 from my ISP routed through their Business solution, and there haven't been any issues with the ISP for the past eight...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I will simply bypass this issue by keeping my RT-AX88U instead of the GT-AX6000 and get myself another 10Gbps/2.5Gbps switch. I already have a 10Gbps backbone between all my switches, but I have a lot of devices connected directly to my RT-AX88U, so instead of having the GT-AX6000 with a 2.5Gbps...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

The most likely reason why Full-Cone NAT is not implemented into the Linux kernel, or more in-demand in general is most likely because this is basically nitpicking at this point. Most people have no clue if they are using Full-Cone NAT, Port-Restricted Cone NAT or Symmetrical NAT. And most...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I would love to have my own IPv4 subnet, but you are not going to be able to purchase any meaningful IPv4 block in 2022 without paying tons of money. I have my own /30 block and even that is costing a lot of money in 2022. And it's not even provider-independent. I was working with a government...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I configured my GT-AX6000 yesterday, I've been using the RT-AX88U for the past few years and when testing it still works with Full-Cone NAT. It's only the GT-AX6000 that seems not to so I've had about 28 hours so far with Symmetrical NAT instead of Full-Cone NAT. NAT =! Security. I don't really...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Luckily the use of Symmetrical NAT is becoming less and less of an issue with gaming. Most AA and AAA games are hosting most things "in the cloud" resulting in you having less need for P2P connections to your own console/PC to happen. IPv6 is going to remove this issue entirely as there won't be...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Hmm, that is disappointing. So I have to choose between a 2.5Gbps downlink to my switch (10Gbps if I go with the GT-AX11000 Pro) or Full-Cone NAT on my RT-AX88U. When stuck with Symmetrical NAT solutions like building a small form factor X86-64 system and running OPNsense becomes a possibility...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Is this only related to AsusWRT-Merlin? Or does that mean the official firmware is misleading? As the option is there on the GT-AX6000 when running 3.0.0.4.388.21617 to change from Symmetrical to Full-Cone NAT. Haven't been able to test or verify if the change is actually doing anything, but I...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Sounds a bit strange as the native AsusWRT firmware does feature the toggle for Full-Cone NAT. I had it when running 3.0.0.4.388.21617.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I'm running 388.1 BETA3 on my RT-AX88U as well and it's still visible in the WebUI on that one. Seems like this is simply an oversight on the AsusWRT-Merlin firmware for the GT-AX6000.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I just got myself the GT-AX6000 and I noticed when using the stock AsusWRT firmware I can change between Symmetrical and Full-Cone NAT under WAN settings. Just like on my RT-AX88U. But after installing Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 BETA3 the option has disappeared. I seem to be able to toggle Full-Cone...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

I'm considering switching my RT-AX88U to a GT-AX11000 Pro. Does the GT-AX11000 Pro support the option for running Fullcone NAT? If memory serves me right, @RMerlin mentioned something in the past that only a few models had the option to switch NAT Type, so unless this option exists in the SDK...

    Ipv6 native or passthrough?

I've been running native IPv6 for years on my Asus RT-AX88U running Merlin firmware without any issues. But I do have a static /56 subnet routed from my ISP, I'm not relying on the use of either SLAAC or DHCPv6-PD, and then I use SLAAC to provide global/public /64 subnet to my local devices.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

Are there any changes for Full-Cone NAT support? Any reason to avoid upgrading or any additional hardware getting support for Full-Cone NAT?
  20. RamGuy

WAN_Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

Why would you want to run your network like this? Double-NAT is never a good solution. You should have the least amount of network address translations as possible. Doesn't your ISP router feature any kind of bridge mode?
