ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 current experience

Oh and btw, this is the Australian version which I believe is the same as the European version, it's certainly not the Pro version.

ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 current experience

I can't answer your question because I've only used it with the current firmware, and I'm using it as an AiMesh node not router. But I do have a couple of observations that might be useful. One thing I can say is setting up the main router is very fussy, I had trouble with client disconnects...

ROG 98 Pro: Fire Stick 4K Max won’t connect to WiFi 6E???

Be aware I have a GT-BE98 non-Pro router and I have three 4K Max sticks. I ended up not using the GT-BE98 as the main router because it was too much of a problem, I used A ZenWiFi BQ16. I had trouble when WiFi 7 was enabled on the main network and also when I created an MLO network in the guest...

ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

I'm familiar with libtirpc and to some extent nfs-utils, busybox less so. Switching to libtirpc was a little painful, depending on how low level the rpc code you have is, but in this case it should be already done in nfs-utils. I'll try and find some time to have a look around and see if I can...

ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

What were the problems with nfs-utils? Was it the removal of the RPC code from glibc (that did cause a bit of pain a while ago now)? nfs-utils migrated to use libtirpc, in fact the nfs-utils maintainer also did the libtirpc work and is the upstream maintainer of libtirpc.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

And the GT-BE98 costs $1499 AUD!

    Problems with Port Forwarding

Is the application on a computer that always connects directly to the router? Does the computer in question connect via wifi or wired? Does the computer in question have a fixed IP address? Do you expect to be able to access more than one device on the same external port? Note there is no...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I've seen comments that say anything over 300 mbs probably doesn't benefit from QoS a number of times over the years.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I have tried very hard to use 388.1 but I keep getting a web GUI slow down to unusable speeds after a few days. I'm pretty sure I used it on my GT-AX11000 for a time and had the same results, I'm using a GT-AX6000 now and have had to revert to 386.7_2. I have tried resetting to factory defaults...

Allow Non-Root User to Bind to Lower Ports < 1024?

It doesn't look too hard to do: https://linux-audit.com/how-and-why-linux-daemons-drop-privileges/

Allow Non-Root User to Bind to Lower Ports < 1024?

I must admit I haven't worked with this kind of approach, the Linux package I maintain is run as root so I haven't needed to worry about this stuff. So I don't know about how to drop privileges after doing the privileged things you need to do, if it means a lot to you it's probably worth doing...

Allow Non-Root User to Bind to Lower Ports < 1024?

Does setting the set uid on exec not work or is that too wide an attack surface for your needs?

IIRC the form won't allow saving when some of those fields are empty.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Cosmetic problem. On my GT-AX6000, on the WAN page assigning DNS addresses I see two Clean Browsing options , one for the Family filter and one for the Adult filter. If I select the Adult filter the resulting WAN page shows it as "Filter Mode: Family" when it should be "Filter Mode: Adult".

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I wasn't implying a half-working implementation I was implying there are cases that are "not possible" based on what I've seen as the definition of Full Cone NAT. Yes, indeed. Ian

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I guess the question becomes is masquerade sufficient for the connection oriented TCP protocol. To answer that you would need to define what a Full Cone NAT implementation is meant to do. I think the answer is "it is sufficient" considering the restrictions an actual implementation must operate...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Well, yes I understand what your saying. There are many discussions about it but the only ones I have seen that I think actually have a problem are those that need to use two Xbox consoles (possibly other brands are problematic) at the same time and often both for the same game. I have more...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

It's a bit puzzling really. There is an implementation around which might be able to be merged into either ASUS or Merlin firmware and yet we are left with "gaming routers" that can't do full cone NAT so anyone with two or more Xbox consoles will have problems ...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

If this problem is encountered resetting to factory defaults and reconfigure doesn't help. I have no idea what's causing it but I see it on multiple routers (GT-AX11000 and XT12) and, IIRC, I have seen it on stock firmware as well. Once it starts it doesn't stop, GUI starts seeing the long hangs...

[Syslog] "kernel: tntfs error (device sdb1, pid 5172): ntfs_nfs_get_inode(): Failed to get inode 0x38aa (error 2)."

Some NFS client is (or clients are) persistently looking for something that doesn't exist.
