    Time is wrong.

The problem seems to have started Oct 17 20:32:34 when the xDSL link went down. It came back up, but went down again at 20:49:37. Something similar happened already on Oct 3. Oct 18 00:18:22 a series of messages started to say the modem had hung up, and at 01:26:04 the router restarted...

    Time is wrong.

As Colin said, 5th is correct. @ TeddySlugworth (post #8) - When the router reboots, it shows a time which is in the past. This is why it was displaying 5 May. As soon as it is able to connect to the Internet, it queries the time server (pool.ntp.org or uk.pool.ntp.org in this case) to find...

    Time is wrong.

The 5th Sunday in the month means the last Sunday in the month, whether this is the 4th or 5th. For most regions I imagine that's what you would want. HTH

Turning mains power on/off - will it damage my router?

Where I live there is a growing number of cases of Legionnaires' disease, which can be fatal. Elderly people and those with respiratory problems are especially vulnerable. Infection is mainly through breathing in an aerosol, for example in a shower. The bacteria are naturally present in water...

    DNSOMATIC can't connect

On the screen shot above, the "Host Name" field shows "all.dnsomatic.com". Did you try instead "yourdomainname.afraid.org" ?

Wiring new apartment - need advice

If your local code allows it, you might want to consider putting the Cat6a cable in smurf tubes. Then in X years' time, when Cat8 comes along, it will be easy to pull the new Cat8 cable through the existing tubes. (I use Cat8 just as an example, it could also be some form of fibre, if/when it...

    Rebooting and stability?

Running RT-AC86U with Merlin 384.13. 123 days uptime here. TrendMicro things and QoS both switched off. Edit: Powered through a UPS. Not sure if that makes a difference.

How to setup site-to-site TUN connect with 2 Asus routers (Video draft)

Looks very good. Great job. The expanded version will be very helpful to a lot of people. For viewers unfamiliar with VPN concepts, it might be good to explain at the beginning that a VPN link consists of a server at one end of the link, and a client at the other end. Many people seem just...

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

As the Captain says, it's safer to connect the WAN port of your Asus router to a normal LAN port (not DMZ) of the ISP router. Access from outside via OpenVPN will still work because you previously set up port forwarding and tested that it worked. You mention that the ISP router is no longer...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Agreed! 114 days on RT-AC86U. Basic config, all the usual suspects turned off.

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

I think OP has already got OpenVPN working from a remote location, by setting the ISP router to give a fixed IP address to his RT-AC86U which is running OpenVPN server, and forwarding port 1194 on the ISP router. So no need for any configuration changes or DMZ - just bring the RT-AC86U router...

    User NVRAM Save/Restore Utility (R26.2)

@Martineau The nvram save utility is something I really miss since the move to the new 384 firmware. Could you send me a link too please ? Many thanks PB RT-AC86U

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

The Asus router does not know that your ISP's router is in your house, under your control. It sees an access attempt from your ISP's router as coming from "somewhere on the Internet" - maybe from a bad guy wanting to crack in. So by default, the Asus firewall blocks these access attempts...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

The RT-AC68U is several years older than the RT-AC86U. I think the latter is very much a current router.

Can you link 1 switch to another switch?

Technically, yes. But you would get marginally better performance by connecting switches 2, 3, 4 directly to switch 1. Whether you would be able to see the difference, I don't know.

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

The limiting factor seems to be the upstream speed of your ISP connection. So reconfiguring a system which is now working properly (albeit slowly) will not give any speed improvement.
  17. P

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

Yes, that makes sense, because the VPN extends a "tunnel" from your Asus router to your laptop at the remote location. So your laptop behaves as though it is connected to the LAN side of your Asus router.

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

I am not an expert in configuration files, but that looks reasonable. Warpserver stands for the domain name you registered, and servebeer.com for the name of your DDNS provider? So the problem is probably somewhere else. If I understood your previous posts, you can't switch the ISP's...

    New RT-AC86U starting from scratch

Check the client.ovpn file you imported into the client devices. The line starting "remote" should be your domain name, not IP address.
