The AX86U is at the top of my list, I'm just keeping an eye on the price. I read some more around the forums and it seems like mesh is, as you put it, a marketing term. I am glad I asked here! Maybe I should start looking at wired access points - do they use the same SSID as the main router?

I just had a thought, since Asus has so many routers with the Aimesh thing. What about 2 of their cheaper (like $100) routers, using Aimesh and a wired backhaul?
