    Can Asus RT-AC66U+ (B1) run Asuswrt-merlin?

Hello Merlin, Is the AC66U-B1 officially supported? According to the home page: The following routers are supported by this firmware: N16, N66U, AC66U (original MIPS based revs) AC56U, AC68U (Rev A1,A2,B1), AC68P (and the retail and color versions, R and W, of each router) AC68U (Rev C1,E1)...

    RT-AC66U B1 poor wifi range

Grisu, Looking at the home page for John's fork, I realise now that this is the firmware version I originally flashed on my N66U router, and which gave me the increased wifi range. I didn't realise that this was based on another Merlin firmware repo.

    RT-AC66U B1 poor wifi range

Thanks for the replies. I see a slight difference in the firmware GUIs. For the RT-N66U, it allows the broadcast power to be directly entered. For the RT-AC66U-B1, it refers to performance. Does this equate to broadcast range? The online manual refers to the same setting as the N66U...

    RT-AC66U B1 poor wifi range

Hello, I've upgraded my old RT-N66 to a RT-AC66U B1. The N66 router was flashed with the latest Merlin firmware. I've noticed that with the new AC66, the wifi range in the house is much worse than before. Has Asus deliberately crippled the new routers, to encourage people to extend with a mesh...

Many thanks to all for your brilliant help. Installation went flawlessly, using the Asus Restoration Utility. I had to wait for about one hour before installation completed, as noted on @john9527's initial post on this thread. Happy camper. Paul

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

@Mikeyy & @ColinTaylor , Many thanks for the replies. I had seen the compatibility matrix report, and had noticed that the Tomato firmware was NOT included. But I was uncertain if Tomato was an early predecessor of one of the supported firmware versions in that report. So , probably best to...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Hello, NOOB question. I've been looking to upgrade the Tomato v1.28 firmware on my Asus-N66U. I spent some time looking at DDWRT firmware, but gave up up on the incomprehensible documentation/installation guide. Then I found this firmware. I installed the Tomato firmware on the device six...

Article explaining how access to Internet works

Hello, I've been looking for an article that explains from "first principles" what happens when a computer on a home LAN accesses a website. This for a colleague who wants to learn more about this. This would ideally include: - home network configuration using DHCP - using ARP to access the...
