    My 87U has always had bad 5GHz support, I almost did a return on it via Asus but didn't bother. In the 87U's case it seemed that I could get 5GHz working by shutting off the router, waiting about 15 seconds and restarting, then it would work but like you it seemed to have issues with clients...
