I agree that online VPN reviews are garbage and pretty much bought and paid for. I am curious who you feel "actually provides real VPN service....."

I have posted a couple of times that Nord VPN speeds were much slower than PIA. It appears that Nord has a new feature on their web page that suggests a server to meet your needs. Onced I used that my openVPN speeds over Nord became much more acceptable - around 100 down 15 up. Just trying to...

    OpenVPN with Merlin

Now that the problem has been solved I tried Nord again - I see their web page now suggests a server which is a nice improvement. Am now getting 50 down and 15 up. My ISP account is for 150/15 so that is a fair drop on the download side, but it is probably something I can live with. I will...

    OpenVPN with Merlin

We have a winner. I use LastPass and didn't realize it was autofilling all 5 clients. Thanks very much for the tip. As far as suggestion to use Nord - I have an account with them but have had problems. After spending literally hours and hours trying various servers I have never been able to...

    OpenVPN with Merlin

This behaviour is continuing - I have tried pretty much everything I can think of. Right now VPN clients 2-5 cannot load any info manually or using an opvn file from PIA or Nord. The info displayed in VPN clients 2-5 is info repeated from VPN client 1. There doesn't seen to be any way to...

    OpenVPN with Merlin

I am using an Asus RT86U with Merlin 382.1_2. VPN Client 1 is set up with PIA and operates normally. I have tried many times to setup VPN Client 3 with a Nord VPN file, but I am unable. All 5 VPN Clients are identical - they are all set up with the PIA information. I have never entered...

That looks good - I will probably check them out. Thanks for the info.

Curious about what speeds you are getting with IPVanish. I don't care about Netflix or anything like that - I just want a fast, secure VPN. If IPVanish can match PIA speeds then I would be happy to try them.

Not sure if you've settled on a provider yet - but if not you may want to consider PIA. I am using an 86U with Merlin and am getting great open VPN speeds (150Mbps down and 15 up). I also have an account with Nord, but cannot get decent speeds at all (20 Mbps down is the max). Spent a lot of...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Nice to see other reports of great openVPN speeds for the 86U. I have continued to get 160 down 15 up without any problem - that's what I get from my ISP so I've been very happy. I'm using pretty much the same settings as you - without the custom values. It would be interesting to see other...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Hi, I never had any reason to deal with a PIA agent - I signed up for a one year account online and did my own setup. You are correct about the lack of Merlin support - I used the CA Toronto opvn file dated 6 Feb 2017 that was in the Advanced Router Setup guides on your support page (I think...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Here's the settings that the opvn file from PIA gave me Auth digest - SHA1 Negotiable - AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:AES-256-CBC:AES-128-CBC Legacy/Fallback - AES-128-CBC Compression - LZO Adaptive

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

I was surprised as well - especially the last few days when it went above 125 down. Just for your info I am not able to get any reasonable speed with NordVPN. 20 down was max after spending hours trying different servers/settings.

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

TUN - UDP Pretty much all the settings are configured by the opvn file provided by PIA

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Not quite sure I understand what you are asking, but the PIA server I connect to is in Toronto if that is what you would like to know. I was getting about 90 down using VPN Client 2 with Merlin. When I switched to Client 3 it went to about 125 down. For some reason I started getting 150+ down...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

I have been using the RT-86 (Asuswrt-Merlin) for a month behind PIA. These are the results over the last few days with the VPN enabled. Connection from my ISP is 150 down 15 up - so obviously I'm pretty happy with these results.
