384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Let me just put this here... 2019... Trend Micro rogue employee exposes customer data https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-50315544

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Really? explain why I need to share anything with Trend Micro when turn on fq_codel? There's no reason for it. Quit defending something you don't understand.

    RT-AC86U stock vs merlin

I find the hyperbolic description of putting ASUS software on another machine as Illegal to be irritating. You have a right, in Canada at least, to repair/modify your devices. ASUS doesn't want you to do it because it erodes their market share. Imagine being told it was illegal to use...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

I know you guys dont like to hear this stuff, but I once again spent an hour chasing down a shopify based website that Skynet was blocking. It's not technically Skynet's fault, but the reliance on uncurated lists of IPs makes this tool too delicate. I'm going to turn it off.

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Hmm interesting. My definition of "safe" is a stable system that doesn't eventually reset or hang because of unknown or not understood bugs and feature interactions. Reading through this thread it seems that 384.5 has these kinds of problem regardless of whatever "security" problems and...

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Reading through this thread it looks like there are some rumours of memory leaks and possibly other issues. Is 384_5 safe to upgrade to? I'm currently happy on 384_4.2 (from memory.)

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Thanks Adamm. I understand most of this is out of your control. It must be infuriating for the owners of the affected services. It's a difficult problem/balancing act. I can whitelist 8.8.8.8 easily enough. The IP ranges/blocks that host other services, not so easy to be proactive about it...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

While trying to track down some false positives, I was surprised to see blacklist entries for shopify and surica. The one that surprises me the most is for google DNS 8.8.8.8? It's not feasible to manually whitelist these things all the time. How are people dealing with these erroneous or...

AB-Solution - The Ad Blocking Solution

You're quick! I just came back to say I'm pointing at the wrong software. Skynet is adding those entries! Sorry for the noise. /dedd

AB-Solution - The Ad Blocking Solution

I too would like to understand from where entries are coming (see post 2748) especially when dealing with false positives. I stumbled across a problem accessing forthentry.com (An Ontario tourist attraction ... I suspect it's not malware) With ab-solution enabled it is not accessible. I...

[SOLVED] Please help with firewall rules for errant daughters devices

An older thread, but it checks out. Just wanted to say thanks. I was searching for a solution to improve the granularity of the time scheduling. The default one hour blocks in the web UI are much too fat. Thanks for the scripts.

No clients names in Network Map

There is definitely a bug somewhere and ASUS isn't fixing it. I raised a problem report with them in the Fall. They pretty much don't care is my conclusion.

Any probability Merlin can support additional VPN methods?

Understood. It depends on your needs. If an ISP is actively blocking VPN software, most of the standard ones (IPSEC, OpenVPN, etc) are easily identified as such and can be dropped (not the content - the envelope.) The ones I mentioned are hard to identify as VPN traffic.

Any probability Merlin can support additional VPN methods?

There are some very good and difficult to block VPN providers that may be available to you. Xvpn and Hotspot Shield (paid version) are quite good. Depending on the nature of the blocks, Xvpn may be more effective (assuming Google is still allowed..) Be careful out there... (tor or psiphon...

[Release] FreshJR Adaptive QOS (Improvements / Custom Rules / and Inner workings)

Have you looked at the IDM traffic using something like Wireshark? You might be able to create your own custom rules yourself and insert them into your copy of FreshJRs script. He's made it pretty clear in the body of the script how to do that. /dedd

    [Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.3 pre-release test builds

There's no harm in asking. The worst they can say is no.

Logging all inbound & outbound IP addresses from IoT devices?

Wireshark is pretty heavy weight for what you're doing. If you can, try tshark instead. It's a cli based version of wireshark (much more powerful tcpdump) - it ships and builds as part of Wireshark. You can do all the same filtering, unique sorting and so on with that tool.

Asus RT A68U DNS and connection issues

I saw this other thread in reference to ASUS devices being hammered by chromecast. I recall your handset issuing a bunch of mDNS requests... is this your probelm? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/chromecast-might-be-causing-connectivity-issues.43924/

[Release] FreshJR Adaptive QOS (Improvements / Custom Rules / and Inner workings)

I suspect that's not correct. The range is specified simply with the port value and the mask. There is some useful info here: https://serverfault.com/questions/231880/how-to-match-port-range-using-u32-filter Not sure whether the version of tc in the ASUS firmware supported extended match...
