[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Did you force the connection priority of the aimesh node to Ethernet?

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

So what is your problem? AIMesh works great. I’m just guessing you didn’t do a full factory reset after the firmware upgrade.

Why AIMesh? What am I missing?

If you just have two routers that are hard-wired you probably won't see a ton of benefits in using Aimesh over your old Tomato setup. Aimesh is beneficial because it allows you to connect two routers together via a wireless backhaul, there is centralized management, it will auto heal if you have...

[Beta-release] AiMesh Phase2 beta test for RT-AC68U and first beta for BlueCave

You can still use this method. Just because your nodes are connected via wireless does not make Roaming Assist useless.

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Yes you will get all 3 bands with the same SSID or different SSID (your preference).

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

If you haven't tried using the WPS button to factory reset the router you could try doing that on both the 88U and the 66U-B1

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

All of the other devices that are Aimesh supported have indicated in their firmware release notes that Aimesh functionality was added, the 66U has never indicated that in the release notes and it is not listed as supported on the aimesh marketing page. Who cares if it once worked, you got lucky...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I think you answered your own question. You are using a device that isn't Aimesh supported and none of the firmware release notes for the 66U indicate Aimesh support.

    ASUS RT-AC5300 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

I also use NVRAM to restore custom client list, static dhcp, and vts rule list. Pretty much everything else can be configured via the UI in about 5 minutes so not a big deal. Usually with small point releases I wouldn’t do a reset but clearly even with small releases it can be needed so I also...

    ASUS RT-AC5300 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

    Factory reset fixed the issue.

    ASUS RT-AC5300 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

Thanks! That tells me it isn't a server issue on Asus side so I'll do a factory reset soon and I'm sure the issue will be resolved.

    ASUS RT-AC5300 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

I don't really see the correlation between those two things. Since you aren't using an RT-AC5300 is DDNS broken on the AC86U?

    ASUS RT-AC5300 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

Anyone have issues with DDNS after the firmware upgrade? Mine will no longer update.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Latest as of the time of the post. I’m taking that as no issues, time to factory reset.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Is dynamic dns working for others after updating to the latest firmware? Mine gives an error of Unauthorized Registration Request when trying to update.

    RT-AC5300 & FW 20379

I'm running 2 RT-AC5300 routers in an Aimesh configuration and have not experienced this issue. I've actually had really good stability. Did you do a complete factory reset after you flashed the new firmware?

    RT-AC5300 & FW 20379

What about the routers that have 8 ports like the AC3100 or 88U? :) "how do you restrict a topology on wireless backhauls when self-healing through alternate backhauls is a feature?" Right, that's what I had in my mind but was hoping for something more concrete.

    RT-AC5300 & FW 20379

I read it differently. I read it as you can only have max 2 wired nodes, 4 total, so 2 wired and 2 wireless nodes. No idea which is correct. Also, is the only way to determine if a node is daisy chain vs star is if it is connected with an ethernet backhaul or a wireless backhaul?

    AiMesh Node Keeps Disappearing

Supposedly you can only have up to 4 nodes so at first glance looks like you have to many nodes. https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1035085/
