    (AI)Mesh vs Access Point

No doubt you can do that with an AP. But it does not have roaming control with you have an overlapping WiFi coverage of your Primary AP and your secondary AP. In my experience the client will stay with the primary AP even if it’s signal is a lot weaker even when it is near the secondary AP. This...

    RT-AC5300 NEW FIRMWARE 3.0.0.4.384-21045 - Released

I upgraded too, running aimesh with RT5300 as main, RT68U x2 as nodes. Upgraded using IOS ASUS router app. Running smooth no issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

AIMESH FIRMWARE UPDATES - MY PROBLEMS

Can your ring cams use POE? It might be a better option to run them wired with a POE switch. RT-AC5300 does have intermittent WiFi issues every so often you need to Reboot the router becoz the WiFi stops working probably. It may be a memory leak issue on the WiFi code on the router as this...

    5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz

This is where it is best to manually select the signal channels if the airspace is too crowded. If your neighbors’ WiFi signals are set on auto (most likely it is) you would be better if you scan to see which channels they are on and pick another unused channel. 5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz

In a perfect world that would exists. This is the reason why we are in this forum to achieve this seamless roaming without dropping connections when we move from one point to another. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

I am making an educated guess based on: 1) all the Aimesh capable routers advertisements and webpage makes no mention of Lyra or even list in the supported devices list Lyra. 2) Lyra has its own microsite that focus on various Lyra models. Lyra Trio, Lyra Mini and Lyra itself. 3) it does...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

Yes. But if it is just acting as a node. A lower model would also do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

Let me be crystal clear. If you have already an AC5300 in use buying another AC5300 will work just fine. The Lyra is meant for people who are not bothered about having the best performance as the hardware specifications is lower than an AC5300; at present Lyra is meant to be deployed as a...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

Thank you for your clarifications. I have always wondered what is the key difference between repeater and an AP. Looks like if you intend to plug in a wired backhaul then use AP mode. (Next question is from the main router Ethernet cable where do you plug the cable into on the AP? Is it the WAN...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

WLAN is the correct term referring to wireless LAN. WAN = wide area network, that requires a modem to the ISP fiber network or cable. WLAN speeds gets lower as you go further away from the AP. N has a lower throughput but wider distance. AC has a higher throughput speed but typically half the...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

You do realize we are talking about wireless lan speed. N vs AC vs Gigabit Lan. Your clients on WiFi can’t get as fast a connection as fast as your wired connection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

You don’t get it. I said DHCP is not supposed to function when you are in repeater mode but when you plug in a wired backhaul into the repeater there is a dhcp conflict my ac5300 ip sometimes gets taken over (192.168.1.1) and the modem goes offline. Look at the image again. There is no other...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

You are looking at the menu from a wireless router configuration. When switch over to Repeater Mode there is no option which you would believe that DHCP is not functioning.

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

The real question is: “what are you looking for in your WiFi network?” Performance or stability? Mesh WiFi is still in its infancy. Very much alpha stage not even beta. So if you want to be on the cutting edge and be ready to get your hands dirty in maintaining the system then go for it. If...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

It is almost the same. But I do think the AP can be connected wired. While the repeater is wireless connection. But you will end up with multiple SSIDs as somehow the roaming tech is still not very good if you use the same SSID as your main router you may encounter connection/performance...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

If you are prepared to replace your entire current setup with a new mesh system. Then yes. If you are trying to add mesh to your existing network then it is not a good idea. Even for ASUS Lyra - it cannot be added to your ROG5300 as an aimesh node. I only managed to configure the Lyra as an AP...

AiMesh - which second router? vs Competition?

Of course I know what a DHCP server is. What I am saying there is no option to turn it off or you would have assumed ASUS would have programmed it to be turned off when selecting the AP mode or Repeater mode because every nerd and his dog knows that the main router always almost has DHCP turned...
