Recent dual-WAN experience: Asus vs. Cisco vs. Peplink

I now operate a Balance 20 and a Balance 210. I'm very happy with these routers, especially with the dual-WAN abilities.

    Need Router Recommendation

I first purchased the Balance 20 and then upgraded to the Balance 200. I need two routers, one for an apartment and one for a large multi-building residence (think small farm). I plan on using the Balance 20 for the apartment. The Balance 200 is now supporting nine APs and about 80 connected...

    Need Router Recommendation

I did but I later gave up on this router. it is sitting unused on a shelf. I am very happy with my Peplink router that i am using instead.

    ASUS Dual-WAN Routing Rules

I second that. The hardware is very costly but it works and the software is very well designed.

    ASUS Dual-WAN Routing Rules

I never found out how to make it work and gave up on it. My Asus routers are now unplugged and sitting on a shelf. Instead, I migrated to a dual-WAN Peplink Balance 210 which has phenomenal ability to manage multiple WANs with a high degree of sophistication.

Recent dual-WAN experience: Asus vs. Cisco vs. Peplink

I have not used a Surf SOHO but have nothing but praise for my Balance 20 and Balance 210 routers plus the five AP One Enteprise, two AP One Flex and two AP One Mini access points from Peplink.

    Need Router Recommendation

I'm a relative novice in this area so a primary consideration for me is use of use. On that dimension the Peplink Balance family is very appealing. If I need to upgrade hardware, I can always do that.

    Need Router Recommendation

I'd consider it if I needed the speed. My internet speed requirements are modest -- both ISPs together only get me 20Mbps at best. However, I do have 80+ devices on the network, not including actual human users, so I may need greater capacity. Hence the 210.

Recent dual-WAN experience: Asus vs. Cisco vs. Peplink

I recently tried out three routers for a large dual-WAN load-balancing home installation: Asus AC68U, Cisco RV340W and Peplink Balance 20. For others looking for dual-WAN routers, I thought I'd offer my lessons learned. The Asus AC68U was what I had operated for several years. However, I never...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks for your input. In my case, I only wish I suffered a bottleneck of 160Mbps. My satellite ISP gives me only 4-12Mbps (depending upon the time of day) and my long-range WiFi ISP gives me 6-10Mbps (depending upon time of day). During my peak usage periods I'll be lucky if I have to manage...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. I've got a Peplink Balance 20 on the way. Now, if only I could get L2TP/IPSec to work on the Rv340w, I'd be happy.

    Need Router Recommendation

@MichaelCG Thanks. You are right. However, I did find a VAR from Peplink willing to sell a Peplink router so I'll try that. Money really isn't the issue. I'd gladly pay $1000 for a perfect solution. I'm not a network engineer and don't care to become one so I'm looking for a consumer-friendly...

    Need Router Recommendation

@JustinTheOld I have used the Asus AC68U for years (I have three of them) but it just doesn't do dual-WAN. Could never get it to work, so I've abandoned that. Next I purchased the RV340W. It does a great job managing the dual WANS and the LAN as a whole. It's interface and reporting on...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks -- but you miss the point. Cisco will not allow me to operate AnyConnect without downloading the software. I cannot download the software unless I have a service contract with one of their partners. None of the Cisco partners have any interest in supporting a customer with only one Cisco...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks. The Cisco router works OK as a router but I am completely unable to set up VPN. The RV340 does not support OpenVPN. Cisco wants you to use AnyConnect. But you have to download some pre-installation software to get AnyConnect to work. I can't even download the AnyConnect software unless...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks. I've looked at the Synology RT2600ac. It has decent specs but get pretty bad reviews from about 1/3 of customers. How rugged is it? I already use an RS815+ NAS and that seems pretty robust. The EdgeRouters do not appear to be designed ground up for dual WAN. (In fact, if you search...

    Need Router Recommendation

Thanks. I apppreciate the advice. However, while the Peplink router is perfect from a hardware perspective, they miss two of my five essential criteria: 1 Peplink requires you to purchase through a certified partner. They wil not deal directly with an individual buyer. This is the problem I...

    Need Router Recommendation

I need some help on a router recommendation. Here are the minimum specs 1. Absolute dual-WAN capability with load balancing -- two WAN RJ45 ports. Even better if I can add a third USB interface for a cell backup. 2. At least 4 LAN ports. More is better. 3. Ability to interface with OpenVPN 4. A...

    ASUS Dual-WAN Routing Rules

Note -- I've also posted this in the forum for wired routers... I am trying to set up an AC68U running latest stock firmware for dual WAN with load balancing. The manual and FAQs available from ASUS provide no information about setting up routing rules. I have scoured the web and the...

    ASUS Dual-WAN Routing Rules

Trying to set up an AC68U running latest stock firmware for dual WAN with load balancing. The manual and FAQs available from ASUS provide no information about setting up routing rules. I have scoured the web and the information is confusing and often in conflict. I want to clarify a few...
