RT-AC86U Asuswrt-Merlin OpenVPN torrent makes internet crash

I had a similar issue that drove me crazy for a month or so (RT-AC68U/ADSL bridge/PPPoe/ssl vpn etc.). I finally just restored a backup config and it all went away.
