Moving into a Home - Where would you deploy UniFi AP's? (attached blueprints)

Yeah, that is another thing. Guess I won't know for sure until I fire it up. Maybe I wont permanently run wiring until I find a good spot and my speedtests around the house are as good as can be

Moving into a Home - Where would you deploy UniFi AP's? (attached blueprints)

My router/firewall (UniFi Dream Machine SE) will most likely not be near the computer corner because I don't know if it will stay a computer corner in future. Router will most likely be hidden in one of the Living Room corners on the right hand side (possibly behind corner of couches, or a wall...

Moving into a Home - Where would you deploy UniFi AP's? (attached blueprints)

Within the next 2 months I will be moving into a home (from a townhouse condo). The home was built just before the year 1950 and has 1925 Sq/ft. Attached are the Blueprints (there is no Basement). I currently have a UniFi 6 LR-AP and a UniFi Access Point AC Mesh. Planning to work with what I...

Need to extend network cable around 20 feet - Which method should I use? (For PoE access point)

I wish, But the previous owner used some sort of insulation foam around the edges in basement. The wire goes through that foam. I tried pulling/wiggling it to no avail

Need to extend network cable around 20 feet - Which method should I use? (For PoE access point)

It is an unfinished basement and not open to outside air. There's actually a huge dehumidifier in there (also a heater that kicks on if it gets too cold). It's probably better humidity controlled then a normal room, haha.

Need to extend network cable around 20 feet - Which method should I use? (For PoE access point)

I got extremely lucky and discovered a Cat5e run in basement crawl space originally used for Telephone. Unfortunately on the end I pulled back (was going to outdoor telephone box) is not long enough to go where I need it to go in the crawl space. However, the other end of the line goes to the...

AiMesh recommendations for Wired backhaul and 100-200MBPS Internet Connection

Yeah, at this point I'm leaning towards a Dream Machine + Extra AP, or a PfSense Box + two AP's. Unifi has been rock solid for me, but it's more of a time constraint at this point when I'm at the cottage. AiMesh I could probably set up and configure within 20 minutes give or take...

AiMesh recommendations for Wired backhaul and 100-200MBPS Internet Connection

I agree. I like to hear both sides and look into my own facts. Funny you mention. My first thought I was thinking of doing another UniFi system. Considering I want to upgrade my every-day home's NanoHD to a U6-LR, and I could bring the NanoHD up to the pocono house... I originally thought...

AiMesh recommendations for Wired backhaul and 100-200MBPS Internet Connection

Hey Guys, I took a look at the dongknows AiMesh Router Combos that was updated on April 20th. Now I'm looking for input and opinions here. We got a new house in the poconos (ranch style) and I'm going to need two units based on how wide the house is. Key Points: -Internet connection is...

UniFi Network Install Complete - Are there optimizations?

I've finally completed most of my Unifi Network. I have a two floor house + basement. So far I have a NanoHD on the 2nd floor and a AC Mesh outdoor in my back yard. I have the Controller Software on my Server. So far so good. I will be adding a 3rd sometime this week. All are hard-wired...

At the same pricepoint - Netgear X10 R9000 or RT-AX88U?

Gotcha. I'd say the Ubiquiti's are a lot easier to set up than Cisco though, no? One of the reasons why I'd prefer it over a Cisco WAP. Plus, I don't have a Cisco controller either. Would I need an additional controller for the Ubiquiti?

At the same pricepoint - Netgear X10 R9000 or RT-AX88U?

May be a stupid question but... Do you know if I Can I use AI Mesh if all of the Asus devices are all in Access Point mode, or does one of them need to be in Router mode (as the primary)? I ask because I’m sort of finalizing my setup. I have my pfSense router and TP Link switch. Im deciding on...

General Question: Performance differences between Managed/Unmanaged?

I did a couple hours comparing switches last night. For me, It seems like all paths lead to the SG108E regardless. The price is a no brainer, I can use it as an unmanaged switch, while having the ability of the extra managed features. Plus, the 8 port is only $5 more than the 5 Port. I...

General Question: Performance differences between Managed/Unmanaged?

Haha that was a perfect explanation! Thank you!

General Question: Performance differences between Managed/Unmanaged?

I may just do that. Just out of curiosity... Does all LAN data/transfers that goes through a switch on same network have to go to the router first, then go back to the switch to the other local device? Or are local transfers able to occur device-t0-device on the switch level? If the first...

General Question: Performance differences between Managed/Unmanaged?

It makes perfect sense, thank you! The R7800 is in my office right now. the pfSense box is in my basement with my fiber terminal. I notice no issues with the R7800 but was just curious on that CPU usage. It does seem like it is doing some Co processing for the switch throughput. The...

General Question: Performance differences between Managed/Unmanaged?

I'm a dummy and didn't do my full research on pfSense. I got a 4 port i350 NIC thinking I could use the unused card ports as a switch. I then DID my research... and figured out I'd have to bridge ports which equates to a performance loss. I have FiOS Gig (symmetrical), I am a gamer, and...

At the same pricepoint - Netgear X10 R9000 or RT-AX88U?

Thanks, I may or may not sell the R7800. But I am going with the pfSense box at this point. I'd like to play around with it. When 6E does come out, will require new hardware all around. I can't see 6 Ghz being widely utilized a year or two. I'm curious, do you think it would be a waste of...

At the same pricepoint - Netgear X10 R9000 or RT-AX88U?

I've decided to go the pfSense route. I realize I have an old Asrock Z77 ITX motherboard, Intel Core i7 3770k, and 16 GB of RAM laying around collecting dust that was an old server build. I just need a power supply. I just purchased a genuine pulled Dell I350 T2 card from a PowerEdge Server...
