    Agreed. I'm covering a 3 bed 2 storey house with 1 UDM on its own (that isn't even in an optimum location) and I can still get a stable and workable signal at the bottom of the garden as well. I had intended to get an AP but discovered I didn't particularly need it.

    Bear in mind the UDM is WiFi 5 There's the more cylindrical FlexHD AP out now if you want something that doesn't look like a smoke detector.

    As someone else said, seperate SSIDs with individual VLANs sounds like the best fit. Don't think you can cap on absolute data usage though (would have to check) but, as they said, you can throttle the amount of bandwidth available if they're hogging throughput.     I would've thought if you're paying out for 4 nodes and (the OP) claim to have some technical knowhow and also have backbone wiring available then other solutions are possibly more attractive and of comparable cost? If he really needs all that it must be one big house or have very thick walls.

    Prices are variable (I've seen some quote £350+) but ubiquiti's own EU store is putting it out for about £275. Doesn't seem unreasonable considering a good consumer router can command that.
