    GT-AX6000 - Memory Leak? Hacked?

Proton have a good password generator too: https://proton.me/pass/password-generator The memorable word option is handier than the random ones. Longer length is better than complexity. I'd also check any computers for unknown/not installed by you remote access software, Anydesk, logmein...

    Proper PPPoE Setup on Merlin?

You don't need VLAN setting for Plusnet FTTP, just the username as you mentioned and your account password, with PPPoE of course, on the WAN settings page. Some Plusnet pages still mention VLAN, but they haven't updated them since FTTC years ago.

    Proper PPPoE Setup on Merlin?

You don't need to enter anything for VLAN on BT FTTC with an HG612. The same goes for using an ONT on a BT FTTP connection when it comes.

Alternative WAN with an RT-AX88U Pro

I would certainly try a hub and see what happens. I've got 3 SSDs hanging off a hub in the one USB 3 port on a GT-AX6000 just fine. It is a powered hub though.

    An end to tinkering?

Maybe you need to clear your browser cache/refresh after the various resets and firmware changes. Good luck with not tinkering! How long before you get itchy feet?

    Router trouble RT-AX88U

That's assuming its not a combined PLA with WiFi, so may not be possible to temporarily use an ethernet cable - but is the first step I'd try. It does sound like an old problem I had way back around 4 years ago on 384.something - same thing in the logs the clients didn't do the request after an...

UK - BT Digital Voice without Smart Hub?

If you want a fairly long technical read as to how the DV product works try this thread on Thinkbroadband. Someone did manage to achieve running the SH2 on the LAN side of their Asus router plus a Raspberry Pi to do a bit of PPPoE trickery. The link is to the post where that bit is explained...

AC86U with Ultrafast Fibre setup (FTTP)

Whether you need PPPoE is determined by the ISP you subscribe to, the ONT is effectively transparent. If you use BT as the ISP then you will need to set the WAN connection type in the basic section at the top to PPPoE. Other ISPs may not need it, such as TalkTalk FTTP over the openreach...

ASUS QOS does NOTHING! Help wanted [Rant]

Your router is not replying to pings, hence the solid red which is 100% packet loss. You may need to find the "reply to pings" setting on your router and turn it on.

ASUS QOS does NOTHING! Help wanted [Rant]

As others have said I would try a Thinkbroadband BQM on your line. I don't do gaming and have never used QoS as I've not had any issues - I do a reasonable amount of Teams/Zoom (although some over my work corporate VPN) and use a VoIP landline with no issues. But just for comparison the...

    Speed Tests Questions

I've never found the BT Wholesale speedtest particularly consistent - I'd guess they do some smoothing/interpolation to try and give a real world result but it seems to just mess it up quite often. On my BT retail "500/75" it can show just under 500 and about 70 up a lot of the time - but if you...

How do I get full speed from BT Fiber 1GB Broadband

Essentially you can't replace the Openreach ONT (Optical Network Termination) - just use an ethernet cable from the ONT to the WAN port on your AX88U as you are doing. You said you got it up to ~900Mbps - which is about the maximum your service can provide.

    Best small Merlin-compatible router

The RT-AX56U is fairly compact compared to the 88s and runs Merlin, but as Tech9 says no WISP mode and not as compact as gl-inet products. I've seen them for a while but never tried one.

    Interpretation of speed test results

What device are you using on WiFi to do the tests? What WiFi link speed have you got? Whilst the AX88U might be capable of faster speeds often the clients can't. I have an AX88U and due to have 500/75 installed a week into Jan so will see how mine compares. I did see another thread where...

Just upgraded to BT full fibre

Which engineers did the installation - MJ Quinn, Kelly's or Openreach? It is a shame they left the outside quite untidy - AFAIK the DexGreen CSP (the new optical junction box on the left) is actuallly designed to fit at the top of the capping 25a - the old grey duct/cover in place of the old top...

New Digital Services in the UK

You probably need to set the "Number Assignments" for the handsets. I find this easier to do via the N300 IPs web server. If you find your N300's IP address (proably comes up in the list on your router) then just type its IP into a web browser - the PIN is the one set on your phone - 1234 as...

New Digital Services in the UK

Cool - the process gets a bit complex if you want to keep your number and port it in! It's not really about the handsets being compatible with VoIP as it's the base that does all the VoIP work, so not sure what answer Sipgate may say. But I have several Gigaset Go Box 100 bases (they are...

New Digital Services in the UK

Registering an account at Sipgate has nothing to do with your current FTTC or future FTTP (other than using data obviously). Doing the change of ISP the way it sounds you are I assume you know you it won't port you existing number to Sipgate? I assume if you are going the Sipgate route you've...

New Digital Services in the UK

My Gigaset Go Box 100 works fine without changing any of the default settings ( and doesn't seem to make any differece what it is set to). Most modern VoIP kit will punch through NAT without any issue. This should not cause any issue to running the VPN client/server.
