Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

Thanks!!!! Will do. So far, everything is working well. But I do want some runtime, because in the past, the ATT system had to get rebooted every now and then because the Cisco router would lose its internet connectivity. The ATT side would work fine, but just the Cisco side would drop...

Thanks! 12 hours later and everything is still stable, using the router IP as the DNS for my static IPv4 reservations.... :)

Factory reset complete and everything is back up and running :) When you say you set your laptops dns to 192.168.10.1, you mean in the wireless adapter settings? Or in the SG-300? I've changed it to my router IP on one of my static routes and it seems to be working so far! I'm going to give...

I did setup the router with 9.9.9.9 and set the VLANs and WAP's to use the router IP 192.168.10.1, but it never worked. It only worked if I used the outside DNS. Hey, when you mentioned the "from scratch" setup of the router, what did that entail? A full factory reset?

WOOT!!! I think the DNS IP address was the problem! I had left that option as "none" in my static IP reservation page. Changed it to 9.9.9.9 and now it works perfect! At some point I'd like to understand that whole thing better. I'm not sure why I am relying on an outside DNS? But I don't...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

Everything is working fine if I don't set a static IP. We got the main VLAN1 and guest VLAN2 complete. It's been running perfectly. I'm just ready to move forward and convert all devices over now :) If you've got screenshots related to DHCP reservations, I would definitely appreciate that...

I'm running WAP581's. I wasn't sure if there was some way to define the network name being broadcast, but sounds like it's a windows thing I can't change. The wifi devices obviously pick up the SSID, but the wired devices just get a boring generic name :) Yeah, I'm trying to assign DHCP...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

So.....back again finally :) I've been running this setup in parallel to my ATT setup and it's been working well. Yesterday I moved all the hardwired devices over to the Cisco stack and I'm slowly working through the wireless devices. As a quick reminder, I've got the Cisco RV340 running at...

Thanks! I’m going to try to take some time to understand that video :)

Awesome! I’ve been running for a few days now without any issue. I had a bit of a hiccup with the ATT gateway and needed to reboot it, but it’s been running for a week now in parallel with the normal system with no issues. I’ve been swamped with work lately so I haven’t had a chance to think...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

I have disabled the 2.4Ghz on the Cisco WAP for now and disabled the 5ghz on the att WiFi. I am running the att gateway in passthrough mode, but dhcp is still enabled on the att gateway and all my other gear is still connected to it. Apparently the gateway runs in a bit of a dual mode where it...

It was running perfectly when I had the laptop connected via wire directly to the switch on an access port. In the long run, I will run it from my server directly connected to the switch, but for now I’m running the Cisco gear in parallel to my ATT network and using my laptop and iPhone to test.

It’s running on my laptop connected to the main WiFi on the WAP581.

I’ll try to do some throughout tests tonight. On a different note, I keep getting the following error when running FindIT: As soon as I click a button (yes or no) the FindIT box goes blank and I can’t see any devices. I can logon to the switch network manager and see them, but not through...

Got the second WAP installed as mentioned. Pretty easy. Just had to login and change the name. Regarding LAG, I don’t know that I’ll need more than 1gbps but I’ve got the cables already run.... Seriously though, I would like to be able to stream Blu-ray rips in full quality without any...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

So I’m planning to add in the second WAP581 tonight. I need to run a pair of cables, but shouldn’t be too difficult. Next step will be to enable LAG I think? Or would it be better to put the router on a separate VLAN first and get everything off of VLAN1? I understood that there was benefits...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

Just found the answer to my question on the Cisco website: Supports 4 x 4, multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output (MU-MIMO) technology on 5.0-GHz radio and 3 x 3 MIMO technology on 2.4-GHz radio for maximum performance.

I’m not running band steering. That’s a good point. I can turn on the preferred band in my laptop wireless as well, but not the iphones. I don’t mind setting up different SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands, but I thought that I had to run both bands to get full throughout on the unit. I need to...

Home Network Design help with L3 Switch

Is there any reduction in MIMO throughput if I disable the 2.4Ghz radio? One of the main reasons I picked the 581 was to take advantage of the 4x4x4 throughout capabilities.

I've checked the logs and don't see anything showing the device switching from AC to N. For example, tonight, when I logged on with my phone I got this message: "Assoc request from xxxxx BSSID xxxx SSID FBIVan_1" "STA xxxx associated with BSSID xxxxx" "STA xxxx pairwise key exchange completed...
