Agreed, at the very least with besteffort + dual-src/dsthost you're ensuring flow + host fairness and control (as detailed on the OpenWRT page) which makes a huge difference (even without specifying dual-dst/srchost, the default triple-isolate helps a lot compared to no QoS at all); an added...

Which version of QoS to use for gaming

I'd suggest trying: Download: 332.5 Upload: 33.25 Queue Priority: besteffort Extra Download Options: dual-dsthost Extra Upload Options: dual-srchost ack-filter Do a couple of bufferbloat tests with these settings and then change Queue Priority to diffserv4 to compare and see which your...

Thanks! I was curious so I just tested besteffort vs diffserv4; it seems besteffort results in better test results on DSLReports for me. But each connection/circumstance is different so this might not be the case for everyone.

Which version of QoS to use for gaming

Simplest set-up is: 95% of your download/upload speeds + besteffort. Do a speedtest on www.dslreports.com and www.speedtest.net, run a couple to get your actual line speeds, then calculate 95% of that and enter them as your download/upload speeds in cake-qos (e.g. for a 30/5 connection enter...

Just providing a datapoint, my parent's connection is cable at a modest 30/5, and the settings that seem to work best for them are: Download: 28.5 (95% of speed) Upload: 4.75 (95% of speed) Queue: besteffort Extra Download Options: docsis dual-dsthost Extra Upload Options: docsis dual-srchost...

Pretty fresh, built May 28, 2020 thanks to @Odkrys: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/rt-ac86u-i-built-cake.49190/page-3#post-589049

If you run into this again, could you post the output of: tc qdisc Thanks! EDIT: Thanks, corrected :)

I've just committed a hotfix to master to properly clean up old entries from services-stop, in addition to the other legacy start-up methods that are cleaned up (services-start and firewall-start).

Decimals are accepted. If you enter 28.5Mbit, cake automatically converts it transparently to 28500Kbit.

Looks good to me! Just tagging @ttgapers and @maghuro as well :)
  12. jackiechun

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

Correct :) So it would look like "diffserv4 docsis ack-filter"
  13. jackiechun

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

I would base it off of what actual speeds you get :) (117/11) And personally I don't go 100% of the speeds, I do 95% (Cable). Use https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest for bufferbloat testing. I'd recommend going 95% first, doing some tests, and then seeing if dropping it down to 90% improves...

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

From: https://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/codel/wiki/Cake/ "We have generally found that most diffserv inbound priorities are wrong, so we tend to specify besteffort here" Also apparently lighter on CPU usage (as it's just 1 "tin" vs 3, 4 or 8), but I'd be interested in seeing test...

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

Oh in the early builds besteffort was forced upon everyone :D

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

There may be a chance that cake has this built-in, it's worth a try :) I know at least for OpenWRT SQM if you leave one of the speeds as 0, it won't apply. Try something like: cake-qos start 0Mbit 30Mbit
  17. jackiechun

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

Correct, it would look something like: /jffs/scripts/cake-qos enable 38Mbit 9.5Mbit "besteffort ether-vlan"

v0.0.5 released! Many many thanks to @maghuro for making this release happen and to everyone for testing. Changelog: - Now autodetects router model, meaning you do not need to manually enter your router model for the install and update commands anymore - Added to /opt/bin to now be able to run...

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin

Yes this is intentional so users just need to run cake-qos status to check if cake is running and to see if their chosen options are properly applied to download and upload :) You can always run the above commands separately if you need more detailed info.
