Is there a ISP modem/router between the UDM and the internet? This was the case for me, and that router would also send DHCP NACK, even if DHCP was turned off on that router.

Are you using ethernet backhaul? This has to be enabled on the Router/AP AND on the node. Once you switch the node to Aimesh node, it will factory reset (it tells you), at that point you need to search for the node to add it to the mesh.

That is useful info, RT-AX86U costs around 250€. If I need to buy 2 of those to replace my current AC Mesh setup (ground floor and first floor), I was not counting on that.

So, in general, is combining an AX router with an AC mesh node possible or not? I would say in the future people upgrading to AX would want to know whether they can use their AC as a node.

I had something similar with my Tradfri hub. I have a modem router from my ISP where I had switched off DHCP. With wireshark I saw this device sending a NACK and I concluded that probably this caused my Tradfri to not use the DHCPOFFER. So I turned DHCP on in my modem and that fixed the issue...
