    user router as switch/AP only?

opnsense is running perfectly fine, so no luck is required. i asked a question about a setting due to ambiguity in the wording used. what you did was try to be an butt about it, nice try though, but you'll need to pick on another sucker as this one is the wrong target if you want to do down that...

    user router as switch/AP only?

read what i said in the second line of my opening post.

    user router as switch/AP only?

well the GUI says AP mode, it doesn't say the 8 port ethernet switch is also active. the GUI also suggest "mesh router mode" and i don't want router mode at all, hence asking the question here. oh, and i have to read the user manual do i? there was me thinking i'd tap into the...

    user router as switch/AP only?

might be a bit of an odd question, but is it possible to put an RT-AX88U into a mode where it's just running as a switch and AP, and not as a router? i'm in the process of moving over to using an opnsense router, but waiting on other kit to arrive before i complete the change (switches and APs)...

    help with NordVPN client settings

i have 2 rules in the VPN director. 1 rule for a specific device where all traffic gets forced thru the VPN 1 rule for a specific WAN IP where no matter what device it is that specific WAN traffic goes thru the VPN 1 specific device in rule 1 has a DHCP reservced IP address - so that suggestion...

    help with NordVPN client settings

essentially what i need, and thought VPN director would achieve that, is for any device where VPN director is routing WAN traffic thru the VPN that DNS resolution also goes thru the VPN. from what i understand this should be possible. afterall, if i was to install NordVPNs app on any of my...

    help with NordVPN client settings

the first part of that thread i actually already have 90% of that configured as it mentions, the only exception being the DNSFilter config. however i believe this is not the solution to the issue i'm referring to, and is a fix to a different issue. i believe what is needed is the custom...

    help with NordVPN client settings

my pihole isn't the DHCP server, so it doesn't know the "hostname" of a device, well it didn't when i tried a couple of the named devices i have on the LAN C:\Users\chenk>nslookup Default Server: pi.hole Address: 192.168.50.2 > xpslaptop Server: pi.hole Address: 192.168.50.2 *** pi.hole...

    help with NordVPN client settings

i'm hoping @eibgrad is around as i'm sure they have discussed this previously and have advised on adjusting the custom configuration.

    help with NordVPN client settings

i'm not talking about using the NordVPN client apps, i'm talking about the router itself connecting to NordVPN, and then using VPN director to target specific devices to go thru the VPN, and other not.

    help with NordVPN client settings

that's being a bit pendatic, isn't it? clearly that meant i suspect that DNS is still "routing" via my pihole. a local hostname as in the hostname of a LAN device?

    help with NordVPN client settings

yes i know pihole isn't a router, i didn't suggest it was. i have the pihole DNS set via DHCP as the DNS for any connected devices, and due to nordvpn saying i needed to change that to nordvpn DNS (which i didn't and won't do), i suspect that DNS resolution is being done by local pihole when it...

    help with NordVPN client settings

looking for some advice on my current VPN client connection (NordVPN) i've set it up accroding to the NordVPN instructions - with one exception that it said to set the router DNS to their DNS IPs, but as i use pihole and i'm only targetting specific devices or IPs (via VPN director) then that...

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

oh don't get me started on VPN. i am currently testing routing certain traffic thru a VPN (NordVPN) using VPN director (think you saw a previous thread i had about something similar), and i'm sure i have DNS leak somewhere, but haven't had the change to investigate more and seek out some assistance.

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

i'm probably more confused now than when before i started. for the mean time i've changed the WAN DNS to the cloudfare public DNS servers, but left the DHCP DNS to my local pihole servers. I suppose the other option would be to not router the router for DHCP at all, and enable the DHCP server...

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

so maybe the better option is to set DHCP DNS to 192.168.50.1 (router), and set WAN dns to 192.168.50.2/192.168.50.8 ? i want to make sure that no LAN client bypasses pihole (the upstream DNS servers are set to cloudfare in pihole with DNSSEC enabled).

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

yes i mean LAN clients. i don't want any LAN client not going thru pihole.

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

ah ok, so i should set them to a public DNS server, i already use Cloudfare are the upstream source for pihole, so i would probably use Cloudfare in the WAN section. what i don't want is any device being able to skip pihole and resolve DNS anywhere other than my local pihole servers.

difference between WAN and LAN DNS settings options

hi can anyone tell me what the difference between these 2 "DNS" settings are? in WAN and LAN in the WAN section there is a DNS server section, but there is also a DNS server section in the LAN settings (in DHCP). i have 2 pihole servers on my LAN, and have added both IP addresses into both...
