Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

I went full TP-Link Omada on the hardware with 8-port 2.5Gbe PoE switch, another 24-port 1Gbe switch, 3 in-ceiling APs, and 13 Cat6 drops for TVs, office and gaming computers, and PoE cameras. So my Asus hardware isn't needed - it will collect dust for the foreseeable future.

Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

Quick update: Made the jump to OPNsense and it's working great so far. Opted for Protectli FW6D to run it on bare metal. 6 VLANs, VPN Server, Sensei, Suricata, Unbound with Adguard Home. Merlin firmware remains fantastic, but our network needs have outgrown Asus' hardware.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Dirty upgrade from 386.3_2 to 386.5 I reverted back to 386.3_2 from 386.4 after running into issues reaching certain websites with that update. 386.5 seems to be running well so far.

Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

Although I have really enjoyed the Asus/Merlin setup, I've accepted some of the limitations (i.e. lack of VLAN support, low VPN throughput, poor reception [primarily related to router location]) because I didn't have a strong impetus to change. That will change in the near future.

Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

Thanks for sharing the list of packages. Was somewhat familiar with some (pfBlockerNG, Suricata, but not many of the others).

Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

Thanks for the info. I have exposed services via nginx, so would need the functionality offer by pfBlockerNG or similar.

Looking for feedback from anyone that has gone from Merlin + Scripts to pfSense

Longtime Asus and Merlin user. We're closing in on purchasing a home and I'm planning to overhaul our network when we do so. It will certainly be a pricey adventure (still figuring out requirements and hardware, but leaning towards a standalone device for pfSense, 3xPoE APs, along with switches...

RT-AX3000 crashing every few days in bcmsw_rx (Tried hw/sw reset/rebuilds and even new replacement router)

386.4 was the first firmware for the RT-AX3000 where I encountered issues with performance. I reverted to 386.3_2.

    DNS-O-Matic Errors

I will note that I had afraid.org operating without issue on my RT-AX3000 running 386.3_2 before I switched to cloudflare for a newly registered domain.

    DNS-O-Matic Errors

Haven't been able to get DNS-O-Matic and cloudflare DDNS working on 386.4 or 386.3_2. Instead, I switched to using a docker container for cloudflare DDNS updates. Although I prefer to do it on the router, this method works.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 is now available

Following dnsmasq log didn't show any obvious issues. But some websites simply were inaccessible and couldn't be reached when on 386.4. Reverted back to 386.3_2 after continuing to run into issues trying to reach websites on 386.4. Websites were immediately reachable after reverting.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 is now available

Is anyone experiencing DNS resolution issues with 386.4? I've been having some issues getting webpages to load and I don't know if it's related to the update to 386.4, recent snowfall and down equipment (noticed my local IP address changing a lot in the past two days) or perhaps some other...

    cron job for port forwarding

Would like to setup a script to enable port forwarding on 80/443 during specific times during the day. Is a cron job the best route? How do I setup a cron job for this use case on my RT-AX3000 running 386.4? Thanks for the help.

Solved DDNS Resolution Problem - Afraid.org

Thanks for the help. Turns out the registration lapsed for the public domain I was using from afraid.org. I switched to one of Josh's (afraid.org owner) public domains and the problem was resolved.

    Cloudflare inadyn stopped working

Can you provide an example of your setup in router settings, dnsomatic, and cloudflare? I'm having issues getting mine setup properly. PM if you prefer.

    DNS-O-Matic Errors

Recently registered a domain with cloudflare and was trying to setup DNS-O-Matic to serve as DDNS for a home-hosted site. When I enter my details into the DDNS section of my router (RT-AX3000 running 386.4), I get the following errors in the log: Jan 2 18:31:35 inadyn[9915]: Failed resolving...

Solved DDNS Resolution Problem - Afraid.org

Running into issues with my DDNS setup. Worked well until yesterday where resolution just seems to have stopped working properly. I suspect that this is probably an issue with Afraid.org's nameservers, so I reached out to them for some help. But posting router log here in case anyone else had...

    Help Requested: DDNS Setup

I've got everything setup and it's working great. Current setup is DDNS (afraid.org) --> RT-AX3000 (port forwarding active for ports 80, 443) --> nginx reverse proxy with ssl --> server with various docker containers Is there anything I can do to protect my network (upstream from the router)...

    Help Requested: DDNS Setup

I've setup an NGINX reverse proxy on my NAS, but am struggling to get subdomains to work. I originally had DDNS enabled through ASUS (mydomain.asuscomm.com), but since that doesn't seem to support subdomains I've been looking for other options. Ideally, I'd like to use one of the Merlin built-in...
