Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 beta is now available

I have a small problem. I can't do a dirty update to beta from 386.3_2 on RT-AC68U through the web interface. I choose the "RT-AC68U_386.4_beta1.trx" in the GUI, router goes through the usual upgrade process, but when it's done, the interface still says that the router is on 386.3_2 firmware...

    WAN connection drops

Apparently I was mistaken, the problem still persists after flashing johns build with the patch applied (I did a dirty flash without any reset. Should I try resetting it?). Syslog: Mar 19 18:48:51 pppd[406]: Connect time 10.0 minutes. Mar 19 18:48:51 pppd[406]: Sent 230140355 bytes, received...

Thank you! Will try it and report back.

    WAN connection drops

I have RT-AC68U (cpu is reporting as rev. c0). I am sorry, but I don't understand what exactly you mean by level, I am not too good with linux stuff.

    WAN connection drops

Could I just copy that patch into a script or would I have to change it somehow? And in which script would I have to put it (I am guessing wan-event)? Sorry, I am really not that savvy when it comes to networking and routers.

    WAN connection drops

I did some more testing. I receive PADT packets on the line that are not meant for me. Basically, I believe I am having the same issue as in this openwrt thread: https://forum.openwrt.org/t/pppoe-disconnects-every-few-hours/61239/37 (I have the same ISP so I guess it wouldn't be that surprising)...

    WAN connection drops

I tired changing the cable and the dns stuff, but nothing worked. I am now back to 384.19, I am not too happy about the security implications of that but I will have to make do. I hope somebody from the merlin team will be able to take a look at what's happening eventually.

    WAN connection drops

I am not running QoS or any protection as far as I am aware. Modem replacement would theoretically be possible, as it is a standalone unit, but I doubt it would happen. ISP would most likely just tell me to put modem out of bridge and connect to it directly. Anyway I disabled all DNS...

    WAN connection drops

Hmm, I haven't tried removing dnssec, rebind protection and DoT, will try it now. I reset the router yesterday, its been a bit more stable since then, however its still bothered by something as I mentioned above. I noticed that whenever I get "lldpd[184]: removal request for address of (WAN...

    WAN connection drops

Yes, I have PPPoE however its still dropping connection occasionally.

    WAN connection drops

Both, I got a modem that's supposedly in bridge and username/password.

    WAN connection drops

Yes, mac clone errors out with pppd[25693]: Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery

    WAN connection drops

Sadly none of these workarounds work, automatic IP even in continuous mode still errors out with "your isp dhcp is not functioning properly" and no internet connectivity. Same goes for mac cloning, if I clone my FTTH modem mac, I loose my internet connection. Its really strange, since as I...

    WAN connection drops

I found somebody who had the exactly the same issue on openwrt system. On openwrt as far as I understood, the issue was fixed with kernel patch. Is there anyway to adopt this patch to merlin? Here's the thread on openwrt forums: https://forum.openwrt.org/t/pppoe-disconnects-every-few-hours/61239/70

    RT-AC68u pppoe issues

I believe I am having the same issue as you, I posted a thread here https://www.snbforums.com/threads/wan-connection-drops.71065/ Did this also start happening to you on 386 branch? Did you try going back to 384.19 and seeing if it fixed it? Also may I ask how you managed to get PPPD into...

    WAN connection drops

I have actually set PPPoE as WAN connection type, since automatic IP doesn't work, it errors out with "You ISP DHCP isn't functioning properly". I am not sure if this is the same issue as in FIOS thread, since I think my ISP specifies that I need to setup connection as PPPoE
  17. C

    WAN connection drops

Yes, I meant total connection loss, sorry about ambiguity. It might be the same issue as the FIOS problem, however my connection restores automatically.

    WAN connection drops

Hello again guys, I am sadly back with a new issue. Ever since upgrading to 386.1 and subsequently to 386.2 beta 1 I am experiencing consistent connection drops on my ac68u. I don't think its my ISP supplied FTTH modem fault, since I don't have any issues if I take the modem out of bridge mode...

    Slow wifi speeds - AC68U

Yes, I tested 1, 6, 11 and 13 with 20 and 40Mhz, nothing seem to effect it very much. I didn't bother with the 5Ghz since its in what I would consider expected range.

    Slow wifi speeds - AC68U

I started from the beginning again and followed that, but somehow the performance is still what I would consider very poor. Results from testing the 2.4Ghz range anywhere from ~17Mbps to 50Mbps depending on device and location. 5Ghz ranges anywhere from 50Mbps to 190Mbps. Again, I don't know...
