Solved Wired speeds slow with three different ASUS WiFi 6 routers, any fixes?

I just want to add don't forget the obvious. I found this thread because I was having a similar issue with an RT-AX3000. Fought with it one night and then the next morning... it was the cable that it shipped with. Yup, bad ethernet cable. Modem is pumping out gigabit speeds now without...

Is this normal for a router as a AI Mesh node?

Well I reset it and added the XD4R again as a node. This time it worked right away. I don’t know why it was so difficult the first time. Looks the same in the app though I deleted the device before adding it again. craigr

Is this normal for a router as a AI Mesh node?

And this is what I see in the web GUI for the AX3000. Are you sure the XD4R isn't just showing up as a router to choose from in my app because I never deleted it after setting it up with the AX3000? Also, why would I get redirected to the AX3000 when I put the address for the XD4R in my...

Is this normal for a router as a AI Mesh node?

This is the info for the XD4R that I see in the app when I'm looking at the AX3000. I can also turn the LED on and off in the app while looking at the AX3000.

Is this normal for a router as a AI Mesh node?

I'll try again on WiFi only. I believe you, but why is the XD4R shown as a branch from the AX3000 in the app than?!? Also why do I get redirected to the AX3000 when I put the XD4R's IP in my browser? The XD4R is x.x.1.5 and the AX3000 is at x.x.1.1 It took forever to get it to this point...

Is this normal for a router as a AI Mesh node?

I recently setup an AI mesh system using an RT-AX3000 as the primary router and then using an XD4 Zen Mini mesh kit all as satellites: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-xd4-router-merlin-support.73633/ Basically, I just want to make sure this is all OK. The backhaul is all wired. So...

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

I wound up sticking with the RT-AX3000 as it does everything I need with less power draw and is wall mountable. This has worked out really well and I am happy for now; thanks @Morris for the original suggestion :). My network hardware is all connected to a UPS so I run my three XD4's powered...

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

Well an RT-AX86U showed up on Amazon Warehouse today in "acceptable condition" also for $102 so I bought that too. I'll send one back after testing. Looking at VPN speeds I think they RT-AX86U will be a safer bet. I usually don't like running my VPN on the router because setting up rules for...

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

Well another RT-AX3000 showed up on Amazon Warehouse tonight for $102 so I ordered it. Thanks for the tips. craigr

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

It looks like the same size flash on the two but the 86 has twice as much RAM. If the 86 has a 2.5Gb LAN and WAN port I would go with that, but it looks like it goes for one or the other. If it also had a 2.5Gb LAN it would make more sense to me as I’ll only use one LAN port to run directly to...

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

Oh, also I am already doing wired backhaul with the current nodes and would also obviously with the main router.

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

What about wifi 6 support? I assume the main router will need to also support wifi 6? If so, what's the least expensive and/or best value for a compatible main router? Thanks again! craigr

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

One snag perhaps. Can I still run a guest network properly or will I run into problems here? The XD4 does not isolate the guest network when set to "access point" mode instead of router mode. Can say an RT-AX68U properly work with my "nodes" with a guest network? Thanks! craigr

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

You know, I read about doing this, but I somehow thought it didn't really apply to me. The solution is obvious though, just get a Merlin compatible router to act as the main unit. That's a strong consideration. Thanks! In other news, I figured out a long term issue with pihole today so I...

    ASUS XD4 Router Merlin Support?

Hi, I am just hoping that it may be possible to install Merlin on an ASUS ZenWiFi AX Mini (XD4) router. The XD4 is ASUS's low priced mesh router and is absolutely fantastic when used with wireless backhauling. Is there a current version of Merlin that I could test with or is an official...

Static IP for ASUS nodes (XD4N) on ZenWiFi AX Mini Mesh AP mode Command Line?

I do actually intend to bridge the ATT router (or it can't actually really be bridged, but close) and have the ICX6450 take over routing duty. However, there is no way to get WAN to a good location to the ASUS XD4R to act effectively in the WiFi mesh. There's just not a good location for the...

Static IP for ASUS nodes (XD4N) on ZenWiFi AX Mini Mesh AP mode Command Line?

Just to follow up, I could easily have my Brocade IXC6450 or my server act as the DHCP server for the network. I do plan to reorganize my network soon and intend to have the 6450 take over routing duty. However, I still want to put IP addresses in each node device directly. Let's just say I'm a...

Static IP for ASUS nodes (XD4N) on ZenWiFi AX Mini Mesh AP mode Command Line?

Hey guys, I really do appreciate the ideas, but I just want to do what I said; put static IP addresses in the nodes if at all possible. I often change router configs and don’t want to have to remember and redo IP address reservations. I also run a Brocade ICX6450 L3 enterprise switch, so it is...
