How to set up guest network on RT-AX86U-PRO

VLAN seems to be a thing for the LAN and not for WiFi... At least on my router VLAN appears in the LAN section. I don't really understand what it is or how it is used.... But as I said I have to leave it for now due to travel.

How to set up guest network on RT-AX86U-PRO

OK, thanks. I will return to this in 2 weeks after getting back home from a trip. Don't want to update the f/w right now when getting out tomorrow...

How to set up guest network on RT-AX86U-PRO

I am being offered to upgrade the firmware as shown here: Could this improve the situation?

How to set up guest network on RT-AX86U-PRO

I am not understanding something, can someone please enlighten me? Wanting to set up a guest network on my router to give guests Internet access while not entering my internal LAN. I also want to use this as a test bed for devices like Raspberry Pi units which I would use with VPN to access the...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

UPDATE I was at home over the week-end and struggled with the connections... First I tried just to power cycle the device but it connected with the -95dBm low signal nevertheless. Then I tried to disable the WiFi on the main router with no effect. Strange. So I brought the IoT device indoors to...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

Turns out I had to find and click the 3-dot "More options" icon in order to even see that... Now working. Thanks.

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

OK fair enough... Have to wait until Sunday when I will be on site again and can power cycle the IoT device hoping it will then forget the connection source and grab the closest. I have looked at the code for the IoT and it is very rudimentary concerning WiFi connection, it basically only uses...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

I tried the MAC reject filter on my router and it was accepted for the MAC address of my IoT device. However after applying the change the device is still connected to the main router's WiFi and is still reconnecting every few minutes as seen by the MQTT log items it sends when connecting. How...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

I found the place you pointed to but I still do not understand how to use it... It is very terse as shown in the edited screenshot. The action can be Accept or Reject. Can the router use both at the same time? I guess not, right? So it can be not active (default), reject or accept. In the...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

That is what I was thinking about when starting this thread but I have no idea if it is possible and if so exactly how one goes about doing it. Any advice on this much appreciated.... The router is an ASUS RT-AX86U PRO, which was fairly recently installed after a lightning strike killed the LAN...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

    1. As stated I do not have physical access to the location, everything needs to be done using VPN access. 2. And if I change the SSID on the AP then all devices using that AP will be disconnected... 3. Since I cannot access the troubling IoT device physically it is not possible to change the...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

I am having problems with an IoT device that keeps reconnecting to my main router instead of the nearby AccessPoint. The IoT sits at a place where the main router's field strength is -96 dBm and I have set up a dedicated AP for it to connect to which provides a field strength of -65 dBm. But it...

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

Thanks! So the command line works like bash itself then... "$(command)" returns the command result. Added to my Linux notes about ASUS router Linux.

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

Turns out there is a different way to do it: If I enable SSH login in the GUI then I can save the current DHCP settings simply by logging on and executing the following command: # nvram get dhcp_staticlist > dhcpsettings.txt Now the file dhcpsettings.txt contains the current data on the router...

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

I did copy the text on the router's pages for DHCP and PortForward so I have that ready to be copied from... That should take care of the typo problem. :-)

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

OK, thanks. I have already created the screenshots of the old router config pages so typing it back in should not be such a big deal. But I have a bad habit of typos and a MAC with one letter wrong will not work... I guess I should not go for reading back a config from the other router anyway...

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

Well the main site was upgraded last week to 1000/1000 Mbps. And when I was looking for a new router for another project a month or so ago I noted that the AC86U I bought only a little over a year ago for the secondary site is no longer available... So I thought I should get a newer but similar...

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

Oh-boy, did I ignite a fire by my question.... I am grateful for your comments, they are encouraging since I am pretty tired of trying to replicate a working setup onto a new router when I have so many places to stumble on... My current router has configurations customized for: - Network...

Can I save config on RT-AC86U and load on RT-AX86U_PRO?

Background: I have a network consisting of two locations with different subnets each served by an ASUS RT-AC86U router. The two LAN sections are connected together using an OpenVPN server running on the main LAN to which the secondary LAN router connects via the Internet. Both routers are...

    RT-AC51U OpenVpn client reconnect issue

So I have checked with the OpenVPN community after finding this post on serverfault and it seems that using this entry in the client config file may be the culprit: persist-tun Unfortunately the ovpn file used for OpenVPN on this router has this entry... So that should be removed, but cannot be...
