    Got it. Thanks.

    DNS Director - question

Thanks. All good now. When I tested, it appears that I didn’t properly set the unencrypted version properly in the Override app. I re-tested and it appears Director is working as expected now. Another question. If I want to redirect one of my devices (e.g. an iPad that my 7 year old son uses)...

No. I don’t use any addons or scripts.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 is now available

Zero stability issues for me on the latest version. Rock solid. Not sure why some are having problems.

    DNS Director - question

DoH is one of the options within the app when selecting a DNS resolver but I didn’t enable it. I tested with unencrypted Cloudflare and DoT Cloudflare. In both cases, the results were the same…it’s using Cloudflare and not Quad9.

    DNS Director - question

Hi guys. I have Quad9 set in my AX86U Pro WAN tab. I then enabled DNS Director in the LAN tab and set Global Redirection to “Router” (LAN DNS fields are blank) to force all LAN devices to use the router’s DNS settings, and thus, the upstream resolver (Quad9). However, the Director setting...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 is now available

Upgraded to the latest release for my AX86U Pro. I don’t know if this is just coincidence, but everything is a lot snappier. At first I thought it was simply because of the reboot after flashing, which typically makes things feel faster for a brief period of time after a reboot…but it’s...

    Prevent client auto DoH

Thanks for everyone’s responses. Much appreciated. Final follow up question… How valuable would it be to enable rebind protection? I understand what it does but not sure how much additional security it would add given that it can break certain services from what I’ve read. I’m using DoT in...

    Prevent client auto DoH

Hello. I'm running AX86U Pro with latest Merlin release. I've reviewed this thread... https://www.snbforums.com/threads/prevent-client-auto-doh.65450/ ...but I'm still not clear on the difference between "Auto" and "Yes" for the "Prevent client auto DoH" setting when using a DNS filter with...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

That’s what I was thinking too. Thanks.

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Those look good. Keep an eye on things for a few weeks. I had to disable WMM APSD because it caused some disconnection issues with a couple of devices, and it took a while for them to reconnect after waking up. You might not have this issue at all, but just keep an eye out for it. Also, since...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Not to get off track but on Asus routers (under 5GHz pro settings), there’s MU-MIMO and then another MU-MIMO that’s combined with the OFDMA option. Is the first MU-MIMO for AC and the second one for AX? Just to clarify, I have both options disabled and I plan to keep it that way. I’m just...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

I know but explicit beamforming requires both AP and clients to support it. I could be wrong but I don’t think any 802.11n 2.4GHz clients support it.

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

As Tech9 mentioned, I don't think there are any 2.4GHz devices that support explicit beamforming. General rule (for maximum compatibility) has always been to disable all beamforming options for 2.4GHz. For 5GHz, only enable "AC Beamforming" or "AC/AX Beamforming" (since those are officially...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Thanks again. Really appreciate your input and expertise. No…I certainly don’t want my 2.4GHz devices to fall back. As I said, I have that band set to N-only with short preamble. Those settings combined with DTIM 1 and beacon interval at 100ms have given me fast and problem-free connectivity...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Interesting. Thanks both. I have DTIM set to 1, preamble to short, and APSD disabled. I haven’t noticed any range, battery, or performance degradation. On the contrary actually…my devices (especially my cameras and doorbell) connect very fast. I have my 2.4GHz network separated from my 5GHz...

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Thanks. I haven’t noticed any adverse effects on battery life with DTIM set to 1 vs 3. I’m sure there are some but it’s hard for me to notice.

2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

Got it. I knew about battery life. Was just wondering if there was any other reason. Thanks. Also, I find “short” preamble works best for me (devices connect faster) but I only have 802.11n devices on my 2.4GHz network (no legacy b or g).
