ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

That's not reassuring for me, sorry @RMerlin. Considering what they've been up to, I'm done with Asus.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

KrypteX said: "This would have been the way to go for 386/388 AC/AX models as well - separate GPLs specific to each model, instead of a common GPL for all of them." This is confusing, it seemed to me you said the opposite here...

ANNOUNCEMENT: Asuswrt-Merlin support underway for 3 Wifi 7 routers

This would have been the way to go for 386/388 AC/AX models as well - separate GPLs specific to each model, instead of a common GPL for all of them. Anyway, better late than never. Thank you!

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

You seem to be completely lost. It's an AC86U, so no 388.7 for it.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

@RMerlin Thanks again for the detailed response. Since Asus is not transparent with their release notes, nor with the GPL you receive from them, I will definitely get rid of anything Asus based on Broadcom and switch to x86 or Mediatek based units. Have you considered doing work on / forking...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

@RMerlin Thanks for your input and dedication to this project, I very much appreciate it. I understand why you proceed as you do, but at the end of the day I still don't know whether the vulnerability fixes in Asus' latest 51685 from April 2024 are included or not in your variant/version of the...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

So Asus have different branches for the same device? I mean, they can get a 386_51685 from several different branches, with different code involved? So which branch did you get when you received 386_51997? Was it the same branch Asus cut out 51685 from? Or another one? If you ask me, as a...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

For RT-AC68U I see the following fixes from Asus in their latest 386_51685 from 2024/04/15 https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rtac68u/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RTAC68U - Fixed CVE-2024-3079 and CVE-2024-3080. Thanks to the contribution of swing from...

That's just not true and you know it.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

... so are the errors that were plaguing the 386.12 series gone with 386.13 ? It seems so.
  12. K

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

You could. However, I would do a reset AFTER upgrading to 386.13 and manually set up things. YMMV.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 / 386.13_2 is now available for AC models

@RMerlin I very much appreciate this update. Seems to be better than the 386.12 series.

Merlin "End of Life" for 386.x firmware implications

When the AC68U will be totally forgotten (i.e. no more security updates), which will probably occur in 2025, hopefully 2026, you will still have the choice of installing DD-WRT on it. It is not fully supported by OpenWrt.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 beta is now available for AC models

OpenWrt or DD-WRT, you can discuss more here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-moving-some-devices-to-eol-while-issues-still-remain.89340/

Current plans regarding separate version branches

So what do you want to know exactly? If you do not have a device impacted by the EOL status, then what is the concern? If you do have one, then probably switching to OpenWrt or DD-WRT from 2025 onward would do. If that doesn't work for you, sell the device ASAP.

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

AC68P is in fact AC68Uv2 (rev. B1) and is running @1000Mhz.

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

    AC68P is not 1400MHz.

EOL ASUS routers affected by TheMoon malware

Take a closer look and you will see that most (if not all) Broadcom-based Asus routers' WiFi is NOT supported (AC68U included).
