RP-AX56: 5G beam forming options missing

Makes sense… I’m using it as an AP though. wl1_txbf and wl1_itxbf nvram variables are set to 1 by default so bf should be enabled, if the system actually use them on this device.

RP-AX56: 5G beam forming options missing

I'm not sure, but there are indeed wl1_txbf* settings in the nvram. Just tried, a factory reset did not make those settings appear though.

RP-AX56: 5G beam forming options missing

Asus obviously... I say "stripped down" because it's missing a lot of settings from the version you would find in a router.

RP-AX56: 5G beam forming options missing

AX56 is a repeater running a stripped down version of asuswrt. I have version 3.0.0.4.386_42860. Anyone knows how to enable the two missing settings (ac/ax beam forming and implicit beam forming) in the webui? They are present in the professional tab for 2.4G band but not 5G. Thanks in advance.

    AX86U PPPoE MTU problem/questions

About that, actually... I did successfully ping 1.1.1.1 with DF but some websites are broken under that configuration. For example ipv6-test.com reports no IPv4 connectivity, but IPv6 is fine because I'm using route48 6in4. So I don't know, it seems to be not fully working. I'll test further...

    AX86U PPPoE MTU problem/questions

Thanks for the detailed explaination. If I set 1508 MTU on eth0 I get "SIOCSIFMTU: Invalid argument". Probably a hardware limitation? I do have jumbo frame enabled under switch control tab of the router webui, but I doubt it's doing anything since all the eth* interfaces still have 1500 MTU and...

    AX86U PPPoE MTU problem/questions

Hi all, So I've been trying to optimize my WAN MTU. I'm with Bell Fibe 1.5G and using HH4000 PPPoE passthrough, using merlin 386.7_2. From what I heard Bell should support baby jumbo frames and should allow 1500 MTU. But I noticed that if I set MTU and MRU to 1500 in WAN settings, I get...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

I actually am in Canada. I did my best to minimize channel overlapping in my house so it should be fine, and most of the time it'll run at 80 anyways.

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

I dont have AiMesh, the AX86U is the only node I have. As someone explained above this is most likely region limits, and currently there's no way for flashing CFE on a AX86U.

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

I basically gave up, the newest version of the firmware only uses 160 when a supported device is connected, which I only have one (my AX210). I just left it on 64/160.

AX86U on 386.7_2: Wireless falling back to 80MHz even if I set 160MHz?

Yes I'm aware, I'm just trying it out and making sure this new behavior isn't a bug or something. Most of the time I do leave it on 80.

AX86U on 386.7_2: Wireless falling back to 80MHz even if I set 160MHz?

Thanks, I just tried it but it doesn't seem to work for AX86U. `channelhog.sh check` always says I'm on 40MHz (I'm on 80) and it claims to restart wireless while not seems to be really restarting it. GitHub page says it's for AX88U, so probably it can't get the right interface on AX86U.

AX86U on 386.7_2: Wireless falling back to 80MHz even if I set 160MHz?

Exactly, I noticed this new behavior only after upgrading to 386.7, which is why I'm asking.

AX86U on 386.7_2: Wireless falling back to 80MHz even if I set 160MHz?

Looks like this is indeed by design then. Mine stays at 80 probably cuz I don't have devices that supports 160.

AX86U on 386.7_2: Wireless falling back to 80MHz even if I set 160MHz?

I just noticed that on the newest 386.7_2 firmware, if I set 160MHz on the 5GHz band, it will initially use 160MHz but later reduce to 80MHz (I'm seeing this using WiFi Explorer on macOS). I know 160MHz is 99% unnecessary, I just want to know if this is the intended behavior with this new...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

I get it you're thinking I'm messing all the settings up, which to be honest I did... The default settings have OFDMA and MUMIMO all disabled, pretty sure one doesn't want that?

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Yup... I just tweaked my wireless settings a bit, turned on airtime fairness and AMPDU aggregation optimization. Now 720 mbps

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Nothing. I just like seeing big numbers and don't like unused performance headrooms :)

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

With my phone (iPhone 12 pro max) I see around 100 mbps difference (560 vs 470) going from 160 to 80. Ofc this could be affected by other stuff, I'm not sure. Though my goal is to fix my neighbors' wifi (well I call them neighbors only because we share the same house), or thay're all gonna start...

    AX86U: 160MHz @ channel 100+ possible?

Yea thanks, I read some of the threads mentioning Canada and seems 160MHz on channel 100+ is not allowed here. Well frick. But I do believe the hardware is there, just disabled by the hardcoded region settings... right?
