all the same wifi hiccups with my macbooks. Bought a Time Capsule ... problems are gone ... and also the asus.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Can confirm this. Today the hiccups came back.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

After 2 days of testing I dare to say: the wireless hickup problem has gone. It seems to be the best firmware version so far for this router. :)

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Still wifi hick-ups with this one and my macbook air, so ipv6 issues seem to persist. I switched back / crossover to original Asus Firmware 3.0.0.4.206 (the only build of those newer firmware generation, that does work well with macbook air 2012).

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Which firmware is best to use (Padavans Beta or Asuswrt Beta) for me? My needs: - fast and stable hardware nat - reliable ipv6 - reliable upnp (nat) - reliable collaboration with apple push (FaceTime, iMessage)

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Ok ... I´m going to switch to FAT32 as I don't have large files on this disk. Perhaps ExFat will be implemented in future.

Journaling isn't important at all for me ... so I misunderstood you ... Non- journaled HFS will be supported?

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

That's the problem: the 2.5" USB drive is not permanently connected to the router, from time to time I have to connect it directly to the Mac.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

That's bad news about HFS+ as there are only few other file systems supported by Mac OS X and I don't suppose that exFAT is supported by custom firmware. So I have to switch back to FAT32 :(

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

What is the disadvantage of having hardware nat enabled. I will get FTTH with 200/100 at the end of the year. I think I am on save side concerning throughput if hardware nat is enabled. But are there any issues? Will NAT UPnP still work (I need it for iChat, Remote and FaceTime)? Will HFS be...

Indeed Mac Os X has no explicit UPNP Support, but as you said: there are a lot of applications that do make use of UPNP, and it works ... if you have a router that does support UPNP. I am not interested in those phrases "not UPNP certified". There is this UPNP function implemented in Asus...

... i think you are completely wrong. This router is UPNP certified. And we don't talk about UPNP DLNA but UPNP Port Mappings. Btw.: Macs do support UPNP ... Skype and iChat are both taking use of UPNP. I did some UPNP protocoling with a windows machine .... and I can see those needed ports be...

My modem is of course bridged, so there aren´t two NAT´s in cascade.

Asus Support is a disaster .... I mailed them and I tried to register in their support forum, an even this procedure doesn't work ... Neve ever buy again an Asus!

I have this router for a few weeks now, with latest firmware 1.0.1.7c and there seem to be a UPNP bug. With UPNP in WAN settings activated, I am not able to do video conferences with iChat on Mac Os X Lion even though UPNP opens the required port. When I put the MacBook in DMZ all works fine...
