ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

I would like to do a hard factory reset but I have well over 50 devices with multiple static addresses etc etc and it took me AGES to set up and configure! I couldn't face doing that all over again!! Wouldn't do any harm to reset the password I suppose.

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

Thanks dude. I'll try to remember to back it all up!

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

The very first time I did it last year yes, I completely reset the whole thing and started fresh. Assigning static IP addresses etc etc as everything was dynamic before that. I've checked my settings and they're identical to the setting I initially configured. All looks ok but there's always...

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

It's for WAN access as I need to access my NAS for work purposes while I'm away from home. Come to think of it, maybe I'm wrong about that? I have pretty much everything on MFA and it's been that long since I set it all up that I'm assuming I have that set up too!!

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

I am very confused by it all to be honest as my login to my router password is google generated (so lots of odd characters and numbers etc) followed by MFA for devices not included in my LAN. I'm going to go through all of the settings to ensure I've not missed something somewhere. Thank you!!

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

It is very odd! I've re-flashed the Merlin firmware which was successful. Thanks for the input.

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

So after checking the firmware version, it looks like the router has auto-updated to the latest ASUS official firmware. Auto-update firmware was set to "on" which I am sure I had reset to "off" last year? Regardless, Merlin is now no longer on my router so I assume I can just go through the...

ASUS GT AX6000 Reset to default settings unexpectedly

Hi all. I'm hoping for a bit of advice from you guys about an unexpected change to my router firmware. I have not felt the need to access my router setting after installing Merlin last year as I followed all the guides and set it up correctly. However, after logging in the other day to double...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

Morning all, The Sabrent 5Gbe USB adapter hasn't arrived yet but I have made a couple of minor changes which I feel should be mentioned along with a few minor annoyances too! I have installed a new Cat6 Ethernet cable to my laptop now and have disabled WiFi which has had mixed results. When...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

In my use case scenario yes. I think that, because I only use a handful of wired devices and of those, a couple are very low bandwidth due to older technology (or cheap manufacturing processes), the unmanaged switch is certainly the better option. The unmanaged switch will auto-negotiate and...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

I can't thank you enough for the valued input you've given to me as you really didn't have to at all! You've given me a lot of "food for thought" too as this isn't just about attaining the fastest speeds possible also (and more importantly) to ensure your network is structured in a way that it...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

So you've been in the game for a very similar amount of time as I've been an electrician! The great thing about you is that, although you're extremely knowledgeable, you're spoon feeding me in understandable bite-sized chunks which is exactly what I need at the moment and I appreciate that very...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

I 100% do not understand at all but I do understand the principal of what you're saying and I appreciate you trying to steer me in the right direction! The great thing is, regardless of whether I fully understand the terminology, technology and processes behind it all, I am learning with each...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

Well I did what most newbie's do and think that the higher number is obviously better! I now know that jumbo only works when all devices are compatible with it. My NAS and switch do support it but I saw no difference in speeds when trying it out so I put everything back to standard...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

Thanks bud. You've given some really useful information to chew on there! :) So we are agreed on the networking side and I'll have that all up and running when the new devices arrive in a few weeks so I'll get everything prepped for then.... Some info on the NAS: I have 4 x 6Tb Toshiba...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

Hi bud. I see what you're saying and, on the strength of what you've said, I've cancelled the 2.5gbe Sabrent order in favour of the 5Gbe version but there's a shortage of stock everywhere (and I don't trust Ebay) so it's going to be a 2-3 week wait. In the meantime, I will install the Cat6 to...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

I think I am going to run a spare Cat6 from the router to the kitchen instead with a Sabrent USB ethernet adapter connected to the PC. This way, I will achieve maximum transfer speeds over a wired connection with the WiFi being the fallback. I have just watched a review on YouTube by LON.tv...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

Ok, so here's a weird thing. Yesterday @Tech Junky suggested I switch to using the 5Ghz wifi band for higher speeds during my MKV rips and it worked a charm. This morning however, I'm on the same 5Ghz band but the speeds are back to the 2.4Ghz levels I was seeing yesterday. How strange? I...
