    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Tech9, there’s no guarantee that it will last at least a month. I still think the Tp Link C2600 with open-wrt is a better bet performance and longevity wise, compared to the RT-AC86U. Can I ask if the date of manufacture of the RT-86U’s reduces the risk of a hardware failure? Thank you. Does...

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Have just been offered a new Asus RT-AC86U for £65 - but according to the SNB forums, this is the router that has an unpredictable life-span, it could die suddenly within a month to a year. Not worth the risk, so have declined.

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

I presume that Netgear ‘stock’ firmware will have better hardware acceleration, but this doesn’t appear to translate to better throughput or range, in comparison to the open-wrt firmware?.

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Thanks Tech 9. Can someone tell me, if the Netgear is AX1800, does this mean it will have an equal throughput or better on the AC channel when compared to the Tp-Link C2600?, meaning can the Netgear reach 1300Mbps, the same as the Tp-Link AC2600 on AC?.

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

I would have at least expected marginal better throughput on the AC channel by the Netgear RAX20, compared to the Tp-Link C2600. The only advantage in terms of spec on the RAX20 is a larger memory : 512 Ram compared to the C2600 with 256 Ram

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

What surprises me is that my friends Netgear R7800 performs better on AC than the RAX20, but about the same as my Tp C2600. I think there is an element of marketing hype with regards to AX Wi-Fi 6 routers.

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Dear Colleagues, Have narrowed down the search to the following two routers, which I have bought: 1) Netgear RAX20 Wi-Fi 6 Router - Stock firmware ( Broadcom chipset ) - AX1800 2) Tp-Link C2600 Wi-Fi 5 Router with open-wrt firmware ( Atheros chipset) -AC2600 After testing the two, the...

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Thank you for the recommendation. I’ve never heard of ‘Flint’ - which is a problem in regards to reliability.

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Dear L&LD, I’m from the home of chips-dips, Mary Poppins and bad weather - England. I won’t be able to get those discounts or prices in the UK. Can I ask what your opinion is about the above routers ? - I’m being offered a hardly used Boxed Netgear RAX20 for about $30 dollars. ( I hope to...

    Budget AX Router under £60 / $80

Dear Colleagues, I’ve taken on board previous advice, and have £60 / $80 for the best bang for the buck AX router, virtually all of my seven clients (some have AC adapters, virtually all N adapters, including TV for streaming) will be in the same room as the AX router, and have narrowed it down...

Linksys Velop AC2300 Triband Router - no tweaking options ?

I left the router to default settings. It’s just that the Asus Routers (N66U), had these settings, so I’m surprised that an AC router does not have them.

Linksys Velop AC2300 Triband Router - no tweaking options ?

Dear Colleagues, I started another thread in the ‘wireless buying advice’ forum where 2 Asus routers were dropping connections. So I have decided to reconnect my internet providers router only ( a Linksys AC2300 Triband Router ). The ASUs routers had a configuration page for ‘RTS Threshold...

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Thanks for the recommendation. The C80 has a mediatek chipset. I am willing to increase the budget to $100. Is there a Broadcom based router only with 3*3 radios / Wave 2 / AC that has excellent 5Ghz performance? - one that comes to mind is the Tp-Link VR2800.

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Dear Christos, good point. I can understand some members future proofing for Wi-Fi 6, but it’s way beyond my budget and I don’t have those clients yet. Can you recommend a Wi-Fi 5 (AC) access point/ router only that runs cool, has great 5Ghz performance and that I can connect directly to my...

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Thank you for the suggestions, but I don’t mind buying used. After some searching on the internet, a few older but more ‘reliable’ (in regards to firmware) have popped up, within my price bracket: 1) Tp Link Archer C8 / C9 - both have dual band wireless N ( 5Ghz ). Use as access point only...

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Dear Colleagues, I have the older Asus N66U and AC66U routers which run too hot for my liking - I don’t want the hassle of usb fan modifications. I have wireless N clients ( but laptops have AC cards in them - but none of my clients are Wi-Fi 6 ). Although I will consider a Wi-Fi 6 AX Router...

    Please advise which router?

    There’s no point getting a Wi-Fi 6 router, if I’m only getting 150Mbps down the pipeline ?.

    Please advise which router?

Considering most of my devices are Wireless N and that my max internet package is 150Mbps Ethernet ( half that for wireless ), I am seriously considering the ASUS N56U for streaming HD on the 5Ghz channel. Any thoughts ?.

    Please advise which router?

Or I could get an Archer C7 and flash it with dd-wrt?.

    Please advise which router?

A friend has recommended the Tp Link Archer C8 or C9.
