ASUS RT-N66U Dark Knight Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router Reviewed

*.102 coming next week Hello, I received the following note from ASUS: It looks like they will be specifically addressing the issues we had with updating. I asked for a direct link if he had one but no response yet. Anyways, I am quite happy with ASUS customer service :). Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

Just wanted to add that after the upgrade failed (and the router kept rebooting), I did manage to reset it to factory settings and that still didn't help so I am not sure it is just a problem with a setting parameter. Might be a corrupt FW though. Really weird. Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

New firmware broken for me too Hello, Upgrading to the new firmware also broke my setup. The router would constantly reboot every few minutes (and drop wired and wireless connections). I wrote to Asus about it. Hopefully they fix this issue soon. Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

@Creep89 and Lucinda: Ya, I noticed the same thing as well. Setting the QoS limits LAN/WLAN bw instead of just WAN. I also found it weird and it does sound like a bug. Didn't experiment further. I will also report it as a bug (have a slew of other GUI related tidbits that I have been meaning to...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

Thanks for the explanation. It was very informative :). Based on your explanation, they do use NAT-T (I have connected multiple machines already). Thanks again, Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

VPN and NAT Hello, I looked at the router logs and dmesg upon rebooting and did not see any mention of hardware NAT. I also disabled port forwarding and all VPN passthrough and so no mention of hardware NAT in that configuration either. Also, and I don't know if this is a bug, if I...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

I didn't see it in the stock GUI but I will check again tonight in the GUI and also by telnet. Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

I didn't have the RT-N56U but yes, you are correct. I didn't explicitly do anything for the hardware NAT and have no idea if there is one. I did enable IPSec passthrough (it was the default) and it just worked.

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

I use Cisco VPN for my company's network and it works fine on the stock firmware without changing any of the options. Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

Speeds above 100 Mbps Yes, I believe you can attain speeds above 100 Mbps. My tests above were for my MBP which only has 2 streams. In the 5 GHz band, I was able to reach very close to 100 Mbps and it was also not right up close to the router. I'll try doing some more tests over the week-end.

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

Awesome speeds Hello, I just wanted to post a few numbers that I measured this evening (hopefully more detailed numbers this week-end). My router is located on the ground floor of my townhouse in a corner (yes, not the best location but that's where the office and the NAS is). When I am...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

I got a router with the old firmware and upgrade to the newest version without too much hassle. I actually didn't try it the normal way but just went with what Siroza had recommended (ie: click on home, change language and then upgrade the firmware). It wasn't too hard and took all of 5 minutes...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

We have been spoiled by 'Free Shipping'... Anyways, the $15 coupon makes it a wash with whatever Newegg is charging (and not yet shipping...). Mine has not yet shipped though but it says that it was 'Released for Distribution' which I gather means it will ship soon. Romain

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

I just ordered the router. The price seems to have gone up a lot on Amazon and it is still out of stock on newegg. If anyone is interested, it seems to be in stock on superbiiz.com. If you use the coupon code 'SAVE15', you can get it for $180 with 2 day shipping (at least for where I live)...
