    I should have included that detail. I did reset the router to factory defaults twice while it was using the 388.6 firmware. This did not solve the internet connection problem. Thanks for the response.

    When I update my RT-AX88U router from firmware version 3004.388.5_0 to 3004.388.6_0 it stops connecting to the internet via the ISP provided modem. If I reinstall 3004.388.5_0 the internet connects and works fine. I repeated this a couple of times this past week. My location is Shanghai, China...
