Streaming performance on new Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6

As an update, I directly connected the NAS to my Mac Mini and streaming is working perfectly. So, that narrows it down to my switch (highly unlikely) and my U-Verse Gateway router (likely). The cool thing is I am actually able to connect the Mac Mini on the second LAN port on the Ultra 6, while...

Streaming performance on new Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6

I just updated the firmware so I assume I am running 4.2.15 now. I will check later. Interesting (re: idle). Is that an application or something? I did notice when monitoring the network throughput that the stream was very choppy, which concerned me. I set the disk spin-down in the NAS...

Streaming performance on new Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6

Not yet. Most recent version of RAIDIATOR 4.1.7 I believe. Yes, WD20EADS, which is on the compatibility list and as of 4.1.7 are fully supported even with 4kb sector sizes. I should add that my bulk read / write has been blazing. I was able to transfer my files over consistently at about...

Streaming performance on new Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6

I recently purchased a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 and installed 3 WD 2 TB EADS drives (green power). I have the ReadyNAS hooked to a d-link 24 port gigabit router that is also new. The router, currently, is my U-Verse gateway, since I have had trouble setting up my better router behind it. I am...

    Recommendations for Rack-Mount NAS?

I just took the plunge and ordered a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 diskless... Hopefully it will suit my needs.

    Recommendations for Rack-Mount NAS?

Thank you sir. I think I started to come to that conclusion, but needed a push in the right direction. Having a rack in a closet, it is hard to not want to get every piece of rack-ready equipment I can. So, as between something like a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 and the equivalent offering from QNAP...

    Recommendations for Rack-Mount NAS?

I have been looking at NASes for a while now and find this site to be very informative; however, most of the discussion seems to be about desktop NAS devices versus rack-mount. As I have a rack at my house, I think it would be more space efficient to get a rack-mount NAS. The following are some...

After HP EX495, Considering ReadyNas Pro Pionner or QNAP TS-659

So I recently pulled the trigger after what I thought was sufficient research regarding various different NASes. I got an HP MediaSmart Server EX495. Suffice to say, I have been dissatisfied with the EX495. Requiring setup through a PC was annoying, but workable. But what has really killed it...

Need some help choosing consumer NAS

Then what's the point of swapping a drive (other than for failure)?

Need some help choosing consumer NAS

Thanks very much. So perhaps the NV+ is worth looking into because of its steep discount. The real question is whether it will scale with my data needs. I guess with 2TB drives becoming more common, it should. Do you know if you can upgrade one drive at a time in terms of size? I.e. if I had 4...

Need some help choosing consumer NAS

So I posted most of this in another discussion, but it was admittedly off topic to that post. Briefly, my need for a NAS is primarily for home movie storage to be streamed to things like the Popcorn Hour and perhaps the Netgear EVA9150 in the future. I like to archive my DVDs as .iso so they...

    NETGEAR ReadyNAS NVX Reviewed

OK, so I logged in now--(you responded initially to my unregistered comment). At any rate, some more questions. If the NV+ is not readable by most linux systems, does that means something like my Popcorn Hour (video streamer) will not be able to read files off it? If so, that would be the end of...

Internet through switch, but not through wall port where switch is connected...

Just as a follow-up, I got a brand new SLM2008 today from Linksys and it appears to be a completely new version of what I sent in (an SD2008). Whereas the old one did not support PoE, this one does. This one also has some management features, which the old one did not. Two thumbs up to Linksys...

Are Cat6 and Cat5e not perfectly compatible?

Nope, all store-bought. And again, they work just fine in a different arrangement.

Are Cat6 and Cat5e not perfectly compatible?

You would think that's the problem, but I tried multiple cat6 jumpers and no-luck. Better yet, the same cat6 that will not work from wall->switch, will work fine from switch->wall. It's baffling.

Are Cat6 and Cat5e not perfectly compatible?

I replaced a cat6 jumper with a cat5e cable. I know it makes no sense, but that's what cured the problem.

Are Cat6 and Cat5e not perfectly compatible?

Haha, have no idea. I thought about the contact issue, which is why i tried multiple jumpers. For now it is working and I am not likely to mess with it lest I have to.

Internet through switch, but not through wall port where switch is connected...

Dell PowerConnect 2216 ... not gigabit, but not limiting with my cable internet speed either.

Are Cat6 and Cat5e not perfectly compatible?

So, I was rearranging some of my network today (notably moving my router to a different room) and I noticed something very odd. When I had things plugged in as such: Modem->Router->Wall plate to wall plate via Cat5E patch cable->Cat6 Jumper->Switch->Laptop (via Cat5e) I had no internet...
