What happens when I have two devices with the same configuration address on my network. ? who do I make it bring up the right one ? I want to configure my firewall not my router. so now what ? This is for a VM machine setup with lubantu and pfSense that I am trying to learn.

You need to give one or the other a different IP address.

All my router installations begin with a custom IP address and the router's address always ends in x.x.x.111, for example.

Change the one that is easiest to do so with.

It was a lot of work to get to this point. I had to change the ip on my router. a lan address change did not seam to work, it timed out so I went back to a snapshot.
