Hi,

I am facing a curious issue - after setup of new router RT-BE88U the 2.4G network is gone after renaming it from the default ASUS name.
I bought this new router because I had similar issue on the previous AX88 one, but I was thinking that the radio had died on the old one.

Now I am trying to create the AI Mesh between them and the old router after factory reset is providing solid 2.4G network using original ASUS SSID, but on the new router it is gone when renamed. When I do factory reset and leave the original names there, then the 2.4 network is working.

What might be wrong?

Can you see the 2.4 WLAN after a reset and only changing the SSID to something simple like mytestssid?

As on BE88U is after reset only available one SSID due to smart rule, I see only one name. But after splitting them to separated network, 2.4 is gone.

on the old router i use only simple id f.e mimokar and mimokar_5g

Smart Connect uses the same SSID for multiple WLANs... separate WLANs still exist... they just have the same SSID name and the typical client will only list that SSID once for all WLANs.

If you disable Smart Connect and still see only one SSID, then maybe the 2.4 radio is never broadcasting... defective, no matter what you name it?

A WiFi analyzer app will show all WLANs broadcasting and can help show what is actually happening.

3rd router in row with the same broken radio? In my environment, I was unable to use 2.4 radio for the last 5 years on Asus routers (this is the 3rd and the same behavior - 2.4 is gone after renaming)). The stupid repeaters are working correctly here - they are providing 2.4 radio without any issue

Highly unlikely, further suggesting some mis-application of the equipment.

I don't know what the issue is... I was only suggesting a possibility and am not interested in defending hypothetical arguments. Find the problem... buying more routers has not fixed it... that ought to tell you something.

@Milan, check if Smart Connect is enabled under Wireless > General. Typically when Smart Connect is enabled it creates a single SSID for the WiFi.

Post screen shots of what you are seeing so others can see what you see to provide additional context. Include screen shots of your wireless settings, redacting any sensitive information.

Surprise! After rotating the router 90 degrees and moving it 10 cm to another position, 2.4 is back!:D😳

Are you co-locating it with other radios like 2.4GHz cordless perhiperals... headphones, mice, keyboards, phone systems? Seems odd that a simple movement of all those routers over 3 years was not discovered sooner.

No clue what happened.

Just in mind - USB is set to 3.0 mode and I have attached there 5(!) SSDs. Might have some effect?
