New Around Here
Hi

Since 3.0.0.4.270.26 I have the problem that the client status list will not refresh. The list shows permanently the same 5 devices, even if I disconnect a device. The spinning wheel rotates for hours and nothing happens.

Best regards
Tom

I also have this problem. Although under tools you can still se how many clients that are one your networks

It refreshes for me and the wheel stops spinning.

The wheel spins for a couple of minutes here, but the main refresh/update happens fairly soon after pressing "refresh". Most likely depends on your network topology, if you have AP's, repeaters, and so on.

I'm wondering if this might be browser related...just out of curiosity, have you guys tried clearing your browser history/cache?

I had the same issue initially with both .26 and .26b, and actually re-flashed the firmware each time. Problem solved!

Gone clients are not removed, because the router has no sure way to tell if a client is really gone from the network, or simply keeping quiet (such as a mobile device going into sleep mode). So, it's normal for clients to still appear in the list, since they are still in the router's ARP cache.

And the client list never did update instantaneously, I think the new spinning wheel makes us a little impatient.

Previously, people had no way of knowing that the list wasn't up-to-date because the router was still scanning the network. The spinner is just to show that it's still working at probing each client one at a time.

But why does the list shows exactly the same 5 clients since installing 26? I have a total of 9 clients and the other 4 will never show up even if they are connected since hours.
I remember in older builds, the list shows the clients which are online at the moment +/-.

BTW Merlin: I appreciate your work and the latest 26 build is a great firmware.

The ARP part of Networkmap was unchanged. If after a few minutes other clients don't show, it's either because they haven't talked to the router yet, or they haven't renewed their DHCP lease.

One thing I've done to test this in the past is to change the DCHP lease time to a short period, so that you see leases changing without waiting a day. 120 seconds (2 minutes) is the shortest lease that you can set, but if you temporarily set a short DHCP lease time, you'll see leases getting renewed in "real" time *smile*.

Just a thought.

My laptop doesn't appear in the client status, it hasn't shown since i put in the merlin. and now i cant reach the sambashares i the pc from my smartphone.

Is it me or is samba sharing in w7 a headache?

Everything is too small for me to be able to read anything in this screenshot.

Make sure your laptop is indeed connected with that router, and not with a separate access point or another router (for instance, if your modem also has wireless functionality). The Wireless Log page on the router will confirm that.

I have no problem with SMB sharing here, with both Win7 and Win8. If you enable User-based sharing, pay attention to both username and password - Linux is case-sensitive. Also keep in mind that if you create a user with the same name as your Windows login, it must also have the same password.

sorry for the screenshoot, but as you say the wireless log says that it is connected, why isn't showing in client status??
i don't have any other ap or router at the moment. but i do have a switch (it cant matter?)
when it commes to smb i tried to share the usb-disk from the router using user-account, then i can't log on using the laptop...
I dont use passwords on anything (if i don't have to)
i really need help, i've read every tutorial and tried everything i can...

Are you able to access the router's webpage through Wireless?

Still using 26b here until 27 beta issues are worked out. This problem again reared its ugly head for me. On Sunday the Client Status list on the Network Map page simply stuck with 15 clients total and about 4 with names resolved. The circle was spinning for several hours with no change, and I have a DHCP lease time of only two hours. I cleared the cache on Firefox, no change. I tried IE, Chrome and Opera, but the list remained stuck in exactly the same spot on all four. Rebooted the Windows 7 workstation and cleared the cache on all four browsers - but no change using any of them. This also affected other areas, such as the DHCP dropdown list under MAC Address - where only one name showed as resolved. I haven't added or removed any clients, and usually have 19-22 connected at all times. Finally, yesterday, I did what had worked for me after this happened when upgrading to 26 and again when upgrading to 26b: I reflashed the firmware with the exact same file and version, 26b, and now all is well again. But I suspect that there will come a time after another week or so where the Client status will again freeze and I'll be unable to easily do anything about it without reflashing the firmware again. Odd. And every client could connect fine even when the list wouldn't update.

I too have this same issue. IT drives me nuts. Do you think its an OCD thing?

Anyway, why put this in if it doesnt work right? And its not jsut Merlin firmware. As long as I can remeber on ANY firmware this router has had the same issue.

Because it works right for the vast majority of users. The problem is that not everyone is suffering from the issue. The Client list has always been working fine for me for instance, the only occasional glitch was with the name occasionally showing both the workgroup and device name - and it hasn't been happening in quite some time here, so it could have been fixed.
