I got my N66U in a few days back. Got the noted firmware installed and set up. Issues. How does IPv6 work? In the settings, it's listed as Native with DHCP-PD. If you have IPv6, like Comcast touts, it should just work right? (It doesn't) Am I missing some setting somewhere?

Another big issue that I've got that was even worse with my previous router is the fact that my game console speeds when downloading anything on them, blow. For example, with the N66U, I've been getting 5-11Mbps on my Xbox. I get 20Mbps on my PS3 when downloading one file at a time from inside the PSN store, but when background downloading, it dropped to about 8Mbps or slower.

Shouldn't it be faster then this? I do have a 50/10 connection and get at least 35 plus on downloads done on my computer. Or am I just stuck and have to live with it?

Since I mentioned in a previous post all my devices don't play well together unless static IPs are given to each device and the needed ports set to open, etc, where do I look to do this and what settings do I change, or disable to make this happen?

Since getting Merlin's FW going, I'm looking into saving my BW logs to USB stick so they last through reboots and things. How do I do that?

I think that's everything. I look forward to seeing what your FW can really do.

There are a couple of issues with Comcast IPv6. First off, it may not be set up in your area. They've phased it in, and I don't know if all areas have it yet. So you need to make sure that it's been implemented in your area.

The second thing is yes, choose "Native with DHCP-PD", that's the right choice for Comcast here, and it has been working for several months now in my area. You should also make sure that "Connect to DNS server automatically" and "Enable router advertisement" are selected.

And there are two steps to getting it working. First, enable it as mentioned above, and hit Apply. Then, after that's done, reboot the router and in some period of time after the reboot finishes it should just start working. This can take anywhere from as soon as your router comes up after the reboot to an hour or two. Also, after the reboot, the IPv6 LAN Setting fields should be filled in.

Another way that I use to get the IPV6 to connect quickly is to go into the router under "network map" on the left and click "Internet Status" (top circle button on the middle of the page) and then just cycle off and back on the "connection status". This will save from having to restart the router after enabling ipv6

Yes, that thought had crossed my mind. It took them 6 years to get upgrades here I should've had 5 years ago. So it wouldn't surprise me if I really didn't have IPv6 enabled yet, despite having a router with capable FW,

I don't really need it and could care less, but I thought that since everyone made such a big deal about it. Why not use it if you can?

I'll go back through things later when my line is idle and just wait I guess. Thanks for the reply. If you have anything else say, do let me know.

Usually takes only 5 or 10 minutes for IPv6 to come up here, sometimes it's just there when the router comes up from the reboot. I mentioned 1 or 2 hours because I've heard that from others, not experienced anything like that amount of time myself *smile*.

It has been confirmed that my area is not IPv6 ready and that I'm also on a Cisco CMTS which has been behind on IPv6 deployment historically.

Not to mention the fact that, I've been behind on upgrades in general for years. They've a lot of work to do to get me up to spec with the other areas.

Yeah, it's really nice when Comcast catches up, but a pain until they do. My Internet download speed would go down to around 1Mb/s in the evening for a long time when I was paying for 12Mb/s. Couldn't even stream a Netflix movie for some time, and Comcast refused to own the problem. A few months ago our download speed went up to about 25Mb/s when they added some new equipment on our side of town.

I'm still steamed about how long we paid for good speed and got crap speed. But they eventually catch up...
