Hi Guys,

does somebody had a look at the ASUS Version Version 3.0.0.4.374.5656 if this is working again with the Huawei 3G modems ?

I found there a fix "Modified the 3G/LTE dongle setting process in quick internet setup wizard." not sure if this is the connection script change that the Huawei Modems connects again.

@RMerlin did you have a look at the firmware and could this probably fix the 3G connection issue with Huawei Modems ?

not expecting much Feedback as it was released yesterday :)

Which version broke the compatiblity for Huawei?

I noticed that my dongle didn't connect anymore but thought that it was something that I had caused. When I went from .39 to .40 I noticed this. I flashed it back to .39 but luck there. On .41 same issue even after a Factory default.

Log shows 'pppd Connect script failed'

No clue, no source code available for that version yet, and I don't have any 3G stick to test the functionality.

Well from this what I tested the last working Merlin version is the version: 3.0.0.4.374.40_alpha4 and all the newer version are not working anymore with the Huawei Sticks. So I`m currently staying on this version as the LTE is my only internet.

Ok that I will need to wait for the merge of Asus and Merlin version, and than I will check back.

Thanks for Feedback.

For me latest working is RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.41_alpha4.trx
thereafter a new connectscript Generic_conn.scr
using a Huawei e3276s-150 in 3G+ (nonehilinkmodel) running dualwan.

Well, ASUS broke it when they included the cdc-ncm driver and also changed the connection script with new Huawei strings.

The key file for proper modem identification with Linux is usb_modeswitch

about;
http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/

There is a log file within /tmp, usb.log and the syslog

Nothing is new with this so it must be possible to fix this with help from for example dd-wrt gurus.

But from this what I saw already on the Forum, this is the issue with the connection Script. Asus changed this a lot in the not working versions. From this what I saw the modem was in the correct mode, so it was used as modem and was assigned to the correct modules. The AT commands I guess wasn't correct for the Modem and that's why it failed. In DD-wrt it would work, but there wasn't also any compatible FW available. With my old router I had to use the OPENWRT which worked with the Stick. Anyway I think we need to wait more and I will stay with the alpha version.

First of all ASUS must include all popular usb modem from Huawei for proper modeswitching, for example E3276.

I am using high speed 4G/LTE and I need the cdc_ncm driver. (50-60 Mbits)

E3276 can also use the normal low speed driver for 3G.

But for this we need correct identification. (mission impossible without it)

There's my usb.log and syslog contents with Huawei E3276 and RT-AC66U router with both merlin .40 firmware and .41 firmware. (.40 is working for me).
I tried to check those but I couldn't see anything specified problems other than this line doesn't happen in syslog on the .41 usb modem broken fw:
Apr 26 12:11:49 pppd[626]: Serial connection established.
Apr 26 12:11:49 pppd[626]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 26 12:11:49 pppd[626]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyUSB0

and the usual ones in .41 log:
Apr 26 13:18:28 WAN(1) Connection: Fail to connect with some issues.
...
Apr 26 13:18:39 pppd[857]: Connect script failed

I don't really understand this with 3G <<-->> 4G+
My swmbo's Iphone 5c has faster download at our residence with 3G+,
compared with LTE at her office, dont know wich band.

let's hope for a fast recover for asus with drivers and scripts.

Well that's rather easy, distance to the mobile base station, "load" for this base station... I also have a mimo-antenna for my broadband connection.

From my laptop, N66U as repeater, to my AC68 and a Dovado Tiny, bridged (which can handle E3276 and the cdc_ncm driver)

Our home is rural, her office is in city.
Distance about the same, visible.
"load" don't think so, have tried sleeping hours.
My guess is LTE band20 sucks compared to 3G+

well I have here by me the 42,2 Mbit/s HSDPA+ where the Modem stops at around 20 Mbit/s when its in the router. When I use it in the Laptop directly, than its even faster :-( With the same stick (LTE 150) in the Router I have the same speed..... when I plug it to the Laptop its twice faster....

Ok....

As of 2013 HSDPA deployments can support down-link speeds of up to 42.3 Mbit/s.

But.... the important issue is that Huawei is stone-dead broken for the moment with ASUS routers and it's rather ugly!

Yes I agree and I guess we have to wait till Asus fixes the issue. As the script is in the read only space, we can't do much with it. Just stay wit the older versions :-(

Still broken with 374.42!

This is not "rocket-sciense"....:eek:

Still broken with 374.42!

Not even broken but even worse than before - now not only HUAWEI is blocked but my other modems (ZTE, XSStick) too... :confused:

Ciao

Well, everyone with some little deeper insight in open source knows how to handle this but somehow ASUS stays away from this wisdom... :eek:

Yeh and we need to stay on the old version with even security issues :-( Asus told me that they are fixing this in the next release. I had a case open with them.
