380.61 Problem with Link Aggregate?

New Around Here
Hi all,

When I updated my RT-AC88U with the .61 firmware, started having problems reaching my synology (using link aggregate). Asus does not reflect that my synology is connected - link aggregate ports 1 & 2. To resolve, restart AC88 or restart Synology, but problem usually re-appears in 24hrs.

However, after switching back to Asus firmware 380_3941, problem no longer there. Is there a potential issue with link aggregate for .61? I like Merlin's firmware user interface so much more.........

Thank you

When you tried the RMerlin firmware, did you do a full reset to factory defaults followed afterwards by a minimal and manual install? If you didn't, that could very well be the root of your glitches on RMerlin's firmware.

Hi L&LD,

No I did not do a full reset followed by minimal and manual install. When I moved back to Asus firmware 280_3941, I did not do a full reset either. I had thought that since 380_3941 was dated later than Merlin's software, I'd try that to see if my link-aggregate problem went away. After I did that, the link-aggregate, more like my Synology has not experienced disappearing from my device list. How come?

If Merlin is developing a follow-on firmware based off 3941, would it make sense for me to wait for the new firmware before I try the factory reset and all?

Thanks all!

The problem with not doing a full reset and a minimal and manual configuration is that phantom glitches like this appear with no real way to track them down and 'fix' them in an orderly manner.

You can wait for RMerlin's next release, but if you expect to just flash it and have it work, nothing will have changed between then and now. Resetting to factory defaults and then doing a manual install ensures that your router begins at a good/known place to support your specific network environment.

Sure, you can get lucky by waiting for the next release. But that is a poor way of managing a network, imo.
