My 5g signal has been fading gradually over the last couple weeks and nothing has been changed, 2.4 is normal. It gets weak enough for my Roku to lose the signal, something that has never happened before. I'm thinking the channel on this fairly old router may be failing, but also wondering if something else may be at play. As a pilot I know that radios and FAA radar performance varies with atmospheric conditions, could that effect a wifi signal as well? Weather here has been very atypical lately. Anyone ever experienced this type thing? No, I don't do drugs...

I tried the easy stuff like a full reset and manual reconfig. The firmware was flashed when final 384.6 was released by RMerlin.

Thanks

Not sure how old your router is. This slowly happened to my Asus AC3100 were the 5 GHz radio just slowly faded away till it was so weak it was no longer usable. I replaced it with a NG R7800 and now its all good. In fact it has a better signal then the 3100 ever did. My 3100 was almost 4 years old so maybe it just got weak over time not sure.

I think my 56u is 7 years old but not used continuously. My backup hasn't had a firmware upgrade for over 2 years because TP-Link sux at it, so a little concerned about using it for security reasons. Although the signal strength is better than the 56u ever was on both bands.

Any neighbors on the same channel in the 5 GHz band ?
Otherwise, it does sound like either the roku is failing or the AP.

I didn't think about the Roku, and I have an old one I can substitute. Good thought.
