Hello all,

I have an Asus RT-AX66U Pro that was working flawlessly this year, but suddenly the 5g band stopped working. The 2.7 band runs fine, but the 5g connects but can't be used as no Internet access is available.

I've updated the firmware and rebooted it and my ISP's router multiple times with the same issue arising. Any advice? I am running a VPN but it hasn't causedbanybissues in the past. Also stock firmware, not Merlin.

You have RT-AX86U Pro and your 2.4GHz band is working, 5GHz band has issues.

Save your current configuration, reset the router, do minimal configuration manually, use fixed channel 36 at 80MHz channel bandwidth with WPA2-Personal authentication for the 5GHz band and see if it's working properly. If yes - restore your configuration and check again. Use the above settings for better compatibility. If not - your router has warranty, get RMA and send it back for replacement.

Using DFS/160MHz on a RT-AX86U Pro and other than the slow time the 5Ghz takes to come up after power on, or reboot, or visiting certain pages in the router GUI, DFS and the 5Ghz band has been working fine in my use case including when using VPN. There is another discussion on the 5Ghz being slow to come back up. Its a case of YMMV.
