New Around Here
I recently upgrade from the RT-N66U to the RT-AC5300 and the 5GHz speed was a night and day improvement. I had installed Merlin 380.68_4 right away. However, I noticed that the 5GHz-2 band seems to gradually slow down over the course of a week until my iPhone 6 shows that there's no internet connection. The SSID doesn't even show up in the list to select. Once I reboot the radio (by rebooting the router or changing the wireless mode for example), everything works great again it dies at again at the end of the week. I tried upgrading to Merlin 380.69 and it's the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it? Is it a firmware or hardware issue? Unless I reboot every week, this is essentially a high end dual band router. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If a reboot brings it back, then it is probably the problem discussed in these threads rather than a complete hardware failure:

For many people, changing the bandwidth from "Auto" or "80MHz" to "40MHz" keeps it from dropping, but of course if you have 80MHz capable clients they won't get full speed at 40MHz. It is also reported in at least one of those threads that the 382.xx firmware (new wireless driver?) has fixed the problem.

Thanks ScottW and Samosa! I still have a couple of weeks to return/exchange the RT-AC5300, so I've changed the bandwidth to "40 MHz" to see if it lasts longer than a week. BTW, is this issue specific to 5GHz-2? 5GHz-1 seems fine.

Are there drawbacks to using the official 382.xx firmware?

Running an RT-AC5300 with Merlin 380.69. It appears the "Channel Bandwidth" only has "Auto" as an option. Is that because I'm using Smart Connect? I don't see anyplace else to change this setting in Professional or Smart Connect Rules.

Just wanted to report that this setting did it. I've been running rock solid for 3 week's straight. Not one bit of slowdown!
