5GHz-2 Broken on RT-AC5300

New Around Here
Hi,

Not sure this is really the right forum, but I have been using merlin on my ASUS-5300 since I bought it, and it has worked very well. I ran 380.69 and then 380.69_2 for some time, but a few days ago the 5GHz-2 network is misbehaving to the point where it is useless. You might remember a thread I posted a while back with a similar problem where it turned out that a eye-fi card when it connected to my Android phone caused the 5GHz-2 network to drop out. So I have not used that in quite some time. However, now the challenge is that the network shows up and can usually be connected to. After a successful connection sometimes a few packets are received, i.e. I can ping a server, start to open a web page and then it drops. At which I sometimes get an error with bad password trying to reconnect, or that it simply is not able to aquire an IP. (I am close to the router, with excellent signal strength),

All other networks (2.4, and 5-1) works fine. I have not been able to track down exactly when it happened, but it was just a few days ago.

I upgraded to the 384.4 alpha build also just to see if that could help, and performed a factory reset. Are there any good troubleshooting steps here, I am slightly worried this might be a hardware issue.

Appreciate any ideas! :)

Hi,

I was/am planning to return the router so I sidegraded to the official ASUS firmware, and as expected that did not have much effect. However, I then tried to reduce the modulation scheme from 11 to 9 which had a very positive effect, now my devices can connect to the 5GHz-2 and use it and have been working the last 20 minutes. Not sure if that indicates driver/hw/configuration issue, but I'll keep it like that for a little while.

After upgrading to 384.4, I got a dump, and eth3 never comes back up: I did some searching, but not found anything useful yet. Any ideas? :)
Dump attached, excerpts:

Turn off the power for 10-15 secs to reset the electronics.

Make sure the issue doesn't happen when one specific client connects to your router, that might explain why the issue only appear after a few minutes. Disconnect/turn off all your wifi clients, then reconnect them one at a time to see if one of them causes the issue.

If it still fails, then it's highly likely to be a hardware issue. Asus provides fairly long warranties on these models, so it might still be under warranty. Just make sure to flash it back to stock firmware first, in case their tech support ask you to conduct a few tests before issuing an RMA (or in case they actually find out a way to resolve your issue).
